Brunomics 02-16-2013 11:23 AM

woah!

A Pointed Stick 02-16-2013 11:27 AM

Team America, **** YEAH!!!

It just seemed appropriate. Actual thought to follow once my happy level has gone down. :D

lacunacoil777 02-16-2013 11:28 AM

I can donate a hundred bucks!

xECK29x 02-16-2013 11:28 AM

Wang has clearly been keeping costs low to maximize his sale return. He is a business man.

lacunacoil777 02-16-2013 11:33 AM

So Wang basically pays about 7 million a year it sounds like to be able to play NHL GM, keep his adopted son (dipietro) in the NHL, and gets the chance to hang out with his entourage of grown men that wouldnt be his friend otherwise....not a lot of money if you can afford it.

Bunk Moreland 02-16-2013 11:36 AM

I want him to sell.

I repeat.. I want him to sell.

To be honest I'm not buying a story from a reporter I've never heard of in the post about the islanders. This is the same paper that said that he was selling to or in talks with lafontaine last year. I'm not going to get my hopes up here until its really out there like tsn or other prominent NHL outlets.

I totally get the side of he's keeping costs down and the franchises value will skyrocket with the Brooklyn move but in my eyes I see this... Charles wang is a very stubborn man who likes to do things his way and you can see that in the way his day to day operations are run around the team. Now why would he sell now when he's a couple of years away from potentially making this a profitable organization? If he was seriously interested in sell the team the whole time why would he sign this lease, when I think if you get out of the area bidders to rise up the price?

I mean it could be because he needs the money now and maybe the NHL wouldn't let them move.. Who knows really I just am not going to get excited about it until its really out there.

IslesBeBack* 02-16-2013 11:40 AM

OMFG YES!!!!!

I AM SO ****ING HAPPy!!

Bunk Moreland 02-16-2013 11:43 AM

Again I'm not trying to rain on the parade here just tryin to be realistic.. Perhaps Charles is looking for a partner kind of like the Wilpons did because he's needs an influx of $$$ with this loan coming up? The details in this article are very vague and not enough for me.. Yet...

Islanderfan17 02-16-2013 11:44 AM

As great as this would be, I am not getting my hopes up until it's proven to be a legitimate thing going on. I need some good sources confirming this, not just one.

But please, for the love of the hockey gods, sell the team Wang :help:

Backhand of Justice 02-16-2013 11:47 AM

Oh please. Ohhh pretty please be true!!!

giddy up* 02-16-2013 11:47 AM

If he really has a $75 mil loan do at the end of next season, he will 100% sell by then

NYI365 02-16-2013 11:50 AM

Does this mean Eklund was right about potential BIG news on the island?!?!?

OpAck 02-16-2013 11:54 AM

I think a few of us have speculated about how odd it is that Wang hasn't really made his presence felt around the team since the Barclay's announcement, as if something is "up". Every season, he's been around giving interviews or whatever, this season, he's noticeably absent...which is odd since I think we'd expect him to be more engaged with the future of this team no longer in jeopardy.

Thing is, the "state of the franchise" had to have been discussed during the talks with Ratner and Brooklyn. There had to have been some questions raised about what Wang plans to do with the franchise long term and I just don't get the sense Wang told them he's keeping ownership of the team long term. He'll be over 70 by the time the team moves to Brooklyn. There had to have been some talk about who would take ownership and ensure that the team will stay and thrive in Brooklyn.

As for the outright denials from the organization that the team is for sale...I'm not the least bit surprised to hear that. Wang doesn't want to come off as a guy that's eager to sell...that might give the impression Wang is willing to sell for cheap just to get out.

Could be...

stranger34 02-16-2013 12:10 PM

Doesn't matter to me because increasingly I am feeling as though I will not follow this team to Brooklyn.

A Pointed Stick 02-16-2013 12:15 PM

Bunk, thanks for the dose of reality.

If this means Chuck gets to keep the majority share then I am really not happy because then we will simply see more of the same BS like keeping his broken pet goaltender in, him going around the GM and making completely stupid contracts, him making operation decisions or telling them who to draft, etc.

I hope this is true, but I also want him out of the picture regarding decision making because he hockey-ignorant. If he wants five percent and promises silence, no problem.

This had also better include no promises to keep Ricky.

KyleBailey12 02-16-2013 12:18 PM

Oh my. Let this happen.

What did he say?

Hershey Hockey 02-16-2013 12:26 PM

Please, please, please let this be happen. But more importantly, please let whoever buys the team end up being a legitimate owner who will turn things around. Although that should be a given for any serious candidate looking to buy.

"There are some definite clues out there that the Islanders may have grown frustrated trying to get a deal done with Edmonton and moved on to discussions with Minnesota. There could also be some other BIG news coming out of Long Island in the next week to ten days... (sorry to be vague...will have more ion that when able to...)"

Eklund's an easy target because of :

a) his hair

b) his face

c) his music videos

d) his willingness to put anything he hears out there

e) his pirating of rumours from other sites and TSN twitter accounts

He simply reports everything he hears, and when the rumours don't come true, people act as though he lied to them...

He HAS broken numerous stories over the years. People act as though he should be compared to a regular beat writer or NHL columnist, or tv pundit, but that's not him (for more reason than one). But I always laugh when he's proven right.

How anyone can deny he must have some connections is just silly...he clearly does. Let's hope this sale by Wang is the real deal though. The pieces of a great team are coming into place...

Islesin93* 02-16-2013 12:44 PM

I knew it

I knew as soon as this move to Brooklyn was announced, Wang was going to sell

That is why he moved to Brooklyn

Wang is a piece of crap

I was always a defender of him

but basically he was the guy who was responsible for moving the team from Long Island

Nasaau County politics and debt forced the move of the team.

yea well, Wang could have tried to see if someone wanted to keep them here

There was still talks of other buyers and there were other plans on "Fixing" the Coliseum and the Area

Wang wanted to move to Brooklyn because he knew they would be worth more money
