Jarmo might trade Jack Johnson.

First of all what kind of GM is Jarmo Kekäläinen?

Quote:

Considered one of the leading hockey minds and a proponent of using advanced stats, Kekäläinen has earned a reputation as one heck of a hard-working leader.

Secondly, what kind of player is Jack Johnson according to the advanced stats guys?

Quote:

Jack Johnson has some power play ability and a big reputation. He's a black hole who drags down his teammates at even strength. Take away his big reputation and all that's left is Marc-Andre Bergeron.

It isn't just Derek Zona on Copper n' Blue who is not a fan. I read several advanced stats bloggers and they all agree about Jack Johnson, which makes me think that Jarmo would agree as well.

I think Jarmo will try to trade JJ to a GM who buys into Johnson's reputation and don't look at the underlaying stats. An incompetent GM in other words.

The reason this might not happen is that JJ is the biggest name on a very depleted team and that he was the return on a big trade. It wouldn't be a popular trade, but Jarmo ought to do it for the best of the team.

I could JJ fetching a fortune from a GM like Jay Feaster.

It would be a stupid move by Kekalainen to trade Jack Johnson. He's already a fan favorite in Columbus and is leading the league in TOI per game. You also seem to think that there are GMs out there that don't analyze statistics on more than a superficial level before making blockbuster trades. Those don't exist.

Vankiller Whale 02-17-2013 11:07 AM

If he can sell high to a team like Detroit or Philly, I think he should go for it.

Stormcrow 02-17-2013 11:08 AM

I haven't seen too many fantastic things from JJ during his short career that warrant his exultation on these forums.
His reputation and draft status right now is what is keeping him relevant really.
At 26 years of age he should be in his prime right now. If Kekäläinen is going to trade him I would do it now since his value is high. :yo:

I agree with Jarmo. Maybe he's a big game player. Maybe he turns it up big time when playing for USA.

But overall during the NHL regular season, he's awful defensively and hurts his team.

Feaster is a big believer in advanced stats, even implementing several new systems to better analyze them, so I don't see them being a good trading partner.

Jack Johnson is a very good defenseman for us and is an important part of the team.

I highly doubt he gets traded.

Yeah, like all those times Feaster traded the farm for... players... thing... I think.

The fact that Howson traded for Jack Johnson suggests that at least one has existed. Also, judging from the fact that a few GMs are terrible at evaluating talent and signing contracts i think there are more.

Detroit could be a good fit. I think he could definitely flourish in their system.

would be keeping him. That said, I thought the same thing, that Jack Johnson does not fit the mold of either JD or Jarmo, and he will get traded when the value is there.

JJ + for ROR +

Sherman is the kind of GM who might just be incompetent enough to do it.

Crede777 02-17-2013 11:21 AM

I sure hope Jarmo doesn't put much stock into advanced stats. I know he has said he does which greatly worries me.

Advanced stats are like the horoscopes of sports.

Nah, Sherman only trades for garbage players like Varlamov, EJ, McGinn, Downie, Sgarbossa. I am sick tired of trading away our superstars like Quincey, Galiardi, Winnik, Stewart, etc., for all this trash.

:handclap:

JMFJ improved by leaps and bounds since he landed in Columbus, I think they should keep him and build around him.

Hyack57 02-17-2013 11:26 AM

If only there was a team that just lost their top offensive defenceman for the entire year... :sarcasm:

Byrral 02-17-2013 11:35 AM

Jarmo is going to do what he feels is necessary to build this team and if that means trading JJ than I'm sure that means we are going to get a good return for him as history has shown. But GM's trading good players in their primes to rivals (Red Wings) doesn't make sense.

Nemeth 02-17-2013 11:39 AM

What would it take to bring JJ to Dallas?

2CHAINZ 02-17-2013 11:41 AM

I find it far fetched I mean who is going to replace JJ's 30+ mins a night ?

capitalsrock 02-17-2013 11:41 AM

Johnson for Stastny

Schennanigans 02-17-2013 11:43 AM

He's one of the few bright spots for Columbus, but I could see quite a few teams interested in him, so the return should be pretty good for him I think.

Seth Jones

Man JJ for RoR kind of makes sense for both teams. RoR fits JDs model of no quit.

Avs need D and reuniting JJ with EJ might bring out the best of both of them
