This is a fairly descent list scoutman, well done.

How does this draft stack up against prior ones?

well this is a better draft from last year by far....way more top end talent and better depth...not far off of the Mackinnon and Drouin....though Nic Roy and Nathan Noel are IMO not as good as either of them they are still pretty darn good and both have superstar potential in the QMJHL, Jeremy Roy IMO could very well be in the Drouin talent range but he is on defense.

Thanks as always, looking forward to following these guys. Some of them looked outstanding at the All Canadian game this past summer.

What do you think about the 98s, at this point in time? Looks to be some very impressive maritime players.

the Maritimes is amazing especially Nova Scotia with:

potential fight with the top 3 nova scotians for 1st in Keith Getson, Luke Green and Mitch Balmas...Green being a defender, his brother Matt Green is also another top prospect....Michael O'Leary and Barret Dachyshyn, Brett Crossley and goalie Reily Pickard (Campbell Pickards brother) will all give good pushes for 1st round and with Pickard being the top goalie so far for the draft....in new brunswick Taylor Leblanc and Yan Plourd look really good, Sam King is highly hyped but i have to see him more....Quebec is lacking a bit but Felix Lauzon, Nicolas Patry-Gingras on defense both look good, and Samuel Guilbault, Charles-Oliver Ouimet looks really good....I also like defender Michael Campoli and forward Hunter Moreau from LSL, Peter Abbandonato and John-Michael Digregorio both look good as well....a goalie from NFLD in Evan Fitzpatrick has the potential to give Pickard a run for top goalie too.

Great list as usual! Always lucky to have Scoutman share his insight and knowledge with us!

Only nitpick though regarding the Quebec players is that the size are dated a bit. Midget AAA updated them over the Holiday season. For instance, Jeremy Roy went from a limiting 5'10 169 pounds for a top-flight Defenceman to a reasonable (for a 15 year old) 5'111/2 186 pounds. Nicolas Roy is now 6'4". Top defencemen Brisebois, Galipeau and Chabot are all exactly 6'0" now. Alain is 5'101/2.

Interesting list regarding Acadie-Bathurst. They have had pretty terrible crowds this season but with their pick and Victoriaville's they will be in almost perfect position to draft two Acadians to rebuild fan interest around (Deschênes et Leblanc).

Also, where would Cam Askew go in that draft on talent alone? 4th? 5th? Heard he is the most likely top New Englander to join the Q.

well there are three great USA players:

1. Noah Hanifin. Defense. St Sebastien Prep....this guy would go 1st overall IMO if he said he was coming, he is probably IMO the best 97 defender in the USA over Werenski.

2. Colin White. Forward. Nobel Green......This guy would go possibly as high as 3rd to 4th overall....White is a great player, big time prospect who will be a high NHL pick in his draft year.

3. Cam Askew. Forward. Valley.....Askew beside his skating which is a little bellow average he has potential to be a superstar forward, he IMO would probably be around 5th to 6th overall spot.

Hanifin write his name down this guy is going to be a star in the making.

Always nice to see your draft list Scoutman, it's nice to see how the Newfie boys are shaping up.

I'm wondering where you would rank Adam Holwell, assuming he is eligible for the Q draft & isn't in the OHL one. Thanks!

Adam is playihng in Mississauga, right now i have him early 3rd round, but he could easily be high 2nd round, but not a lot of scouts have seen him play or even heard of him which i find odd but a lot of scouts when i say his name thay say "who", to me he is better than Picco, I went to Shattuck to see Picco and im not a fan of his, he is lazy and his IQ is really bad, i have him ranked 2nd round because someone is going to take him high....Holwell is wayyyyy better than Picco, another two guys to watch in NFLD are Riley Baggs and Tyler Hennessey...

Ryan English 02-18-2013 08:28 PM

Great to see you back scoutman!

The boards really appreciate knowing the next ones up on the horizon, as well as another alternative to the central list, which is usually pretty conservative.

Hello scoutman1 ! According to you, which one of these players could be the best fit for the Sherbrooke Phoenix early in the 1st round ?
Thanks a lot for your insight !

Dogpound 02-19-2013 08:49 AM

Where do you see Phillipe Myers and Kyle Ward on the list? Spoke to a few scouts who had Myers top 2 rounds forsure and Kyle Ward not far off.

Hmmm.. top two rounds for either of these guys would be a stretch I think. Both good players but...

Surprised Alex Jacob is not in your list Scoutman1 and Campbell Pickard looked lazy at the Ice Jam tournament, don't agree he is actually a 7th overall pick unless Halifax has that pick.

I have seen Myers play a lot this year and maybe a bit bias and have also talked to a few scouts who really really like him. He is 15 and is about 6'1 180 who is extremely good at moving puck out of his end, plays physical, big shot, and has excellent patience. Needs work on his skating but has gotten a lot better since the start of the year.. Playing top 3 minutes on the Flyers and on top pp and also kills. I think he will surprise many.

I think a lot of teams will be scared away becuase of Jacob's health issues and size. Unbeleiveable skill and vision on the ice and extrememly fast and quick but I don't think he will be able to last once he is playing agasint older and bigger players. Its a little different when you are playing against NHL draft pics instead of Midget AAA players.

I think Myers or Ward will be lucky to get drafted , Myers plays lots of PP ,he is not very physical and has an average shot and really needs to improve his skating. He is very smart with the puck but he has a good cast of players around.Jacob has a better chance to be drafted even at his size the first pick last year was not much bigger.

scoutman1 02-19-2013 07:00 PM

Myers is really really good, smart, big, calm, poised, good passer, good positioning, I have him early 3rd round but he could easily go 2nd round IMO....Jacob is wayyy to small to rank in the 2nd round.

hab 4ever 02-19-2013 10:21 PM

Although it is still early, been told by a scout that the 98 group from Québec looked average but he was quite enthusiastic for 99 group. Probably too early to tell.

AJ24 02-20-2013 09:15 AM

There is no chance that DHenley will go in the second round, Val d'Or has three picks in round 1, they can't afford to lose local players. They are one of the worst team in attendance average per game. Future of the Foreurs will pass by NRoy and Henley.
I won't be surprised if they trade their last pick of round 1 to advance their first selection and get N.Roy.

A Q team chief scout told me that more forwards than defensemen will be selected in round 1 and 2 because of the depth of the D, he said very good defensemen will be available in round 3 to 5, team will try to get the best Forward available soon in the draft.
