Wow - I have absolutely no idea who either of these guys are.

Off to the internet hockey database!

SpezDispenser 02-19-2013 12:02 PM

Boring, but at least it's something!

toewsintangibles 02-19-2013 12:04 PM

Jani Lajunen is a world champion at least

HooliganX2 02-19-2013 12:04 PM

I'm not even really sure who Ford is and I'm a Blues fan lol.

ECHL depth ??

:sarcasm:

Sometimes you get a trade and a bunch of smartasses will say who? for who? when really it's not.

This is the real thing. Seriously who are these guys? lol

FinHockey 02-19-2013 12:09 PM

Not really sure why Preds would do this. I mean, Lajunen isn't likely to amount to much if anything, but Ford is a career AHLer.

Crumblin Erb Brooks 02-19-2013 12:10 PM

Ford was Peorias captain, but they are pretty awful

EastonBlues22 02-19-2013 12:13 PM

Ford's a veteran minor-leaguer RHD. He'll never be an NHLer. Simply organizational filler. Pretty sure he was the captain of the Rivermen (and the Admirals before that), so some leadership ability.

Rest of the trade: Rivermen get AHL-contracted forward Andre Bouvet-Morrissette and goaltender Zoltan Hetenyi from MIL #pjsrivs #blues
Last thing the Blues need is ECHL depth, odd for a minor league deal to be a 3 for 1

OriginJM 02-19-2013 12:15 PM

que the plan the parade posts

SoupNazi 02-19-2013 12:17 PM

Who for who?

Schenn 02-19-2013 12:17 PM

Its not often that a trade is made where I have never heard of either player being traded.

Duck Off 02-19-2013 12:20 PM

You know it's a minor trade when the fanbases aren't trying to say who won or not

caley 02-19-2013 12:24 PM

The trade actually has a purpose, whether you've heard of the players or not.

Ford is a career AHLer, is unlikely to ever play in the NHL or likely get an NHL deal again, so the Blues (And Peoria) getting three players in return for a guy who is going to be an UFA this summer is a good deal, even though Lajunen and Hetenyi are likely to head back to Europe at the end of the year. The reason Nashville does the deal is because Ford was a leader for their AHL team from 2008-12 who only left the team because St. Louis offered an NHL deal versus another AHL deal. It seems Nashville would like some AHL leadership to mentor their relatively young AHL roster.

Nuckles 02-19-2013 12:27 PM

Wow, what a ripoff. Nashville should have also sent a 7th round pick to St. Louis.

Dolph Ziggler 02-19-2013 12:58 PM

Blues win this AINEC :sarcasm:

bleedblue1223 02-19-2013 12:58 PM

Well I had a feeling a trade was coming, surely this will light a fire under our players' butts.

Blues add some depth to the center position (SOMETHING SORELY LACKING) for the Rivermen with Lajunen. Also, he would be a nice cultural gap for the Blues when we bring over two of our Finish Dmen next season. May help get the rookies acclimated next year (that could be the thought process anyways).

If he does head back, it may be a nice move by the organization for Ford and the 3 to 1 may equal out salary wise for both parties.

predfan24 02-19-2013 01:08 PM

A few years back when I went to Preds developmental camp I was impressed by Lajunen's skating ability. He really wasn't good at anything else though.

InfinityIggy 02-19-2013 01:15 PM

Domino effect, we are going to see lots of pieces moved in the next few days.

Still it doesn't make much sense for St.Louis/Peoria.

They traded their farm captain (Ford that is) for a guy who has 5 points this season.

I understand that Lajunen adds depth to their roster but that's not something they need. They already have Della Rovere down in the ECHL.

Plus, why would they want Bouvet-Morrisette? He has 2 points in 20 games in the ECHL.

At least the acquisition of Hetenyi could have a purpose. It gives them a goaltender that they can easily call up to the AHL, in case one of their goaltenders (NHL or AHL) gets injured.

Anyway, it's obviously not a big deal. Neither team really lost, but it's still a strange deal.
