Oilers Caps

to Washington

RW Jordan Eberle
D Ryan Whitney

To Edmonton

C Brooks Laich
D Mike Green
D Dmitry Orlov

Oilers get a Big Centre, clear up log jam on RW. Oil also pick up two more puck movers and Capitals free up financial commitment of Green moving forward. Whitney evens up salaries. Capitals get Eberle as a new offensive cog.

Oilers

Hall-RNH-Hemsky
PRV-Gagner-Yak
Smyth-Laich-Jones
Hartikainen-Horcoff-Eager

Green-Smid
Schultz-Schultz
Fistric-Orlov

Caps

Ovechkin-Backstrom-Eberle
Wolski-Ribiero-Brouwer
Chimera-Johansson-Ward
Fehr-Perrault-Hendricks

Alzner-Carlson
Erskine-Whitney
Schultz-Poti

McIce Whole 02-20-2013 03:49 AM

No way.

Skobel24 02-20-2013 04:06 AM

HUGE no from Edmonton.

SimplySensational 02-20-2013 04:13 AM

Really iffy for both sides.

MW6 02-20-2013 04:14 AM

There's just no point of making a proposal that involves any of the shining bright toys that Edmonton's collected. IMO Caps give up too much value for Eberle, Whitney is a scratched UFA to be with a high caphit which means he has negative value. Green, Orlov and Laich for Eberle? well if the Oils don't even do that, then why bother?

Easily NO from Edmonton.

What about Horcoff and Whitney for Laich and Schultz?

dahlenrules 02-20-2013 05:52 AM

Sure why not. And no to the Laich Horcoff trade.

What about cutting all the extras and do something like Carlson for Eberle

Carlson is signed to a very good contract, and would bring some d help to the Oil, while Eberle instantly gives the Caps a legitimate 1st line RW threat.

So you give two cap dumps for a great player and a cap dump?
It's like, say, signed Smid and Whitney for Hamrlik and Schultz.

how things have changed.

change 1. ovechkin is moved to rw.
change 2. the caps need a 1st line rw.

Acallabeth 02-20-2013 06:54 AM

Not a great idea IMO.

- Laich isn't a great C.
- Trading for three injured players, including one labeled injury-prone, is very risky.
- Why would the Oilers trade Eberle why they're still rebuilding and not Hemsky?

- Green was the Caps' crucial defender before he got injured.
- Orlov looks promising, the only doubt is... again... injury.
- Laich is well respected by his team and also one of the few skilled veterans the Caps have.
- I may not have watched Whitney that often, but us he that reliable physical leading defenseman who we need?

Big no from Edmonton. If one of the big four is going to Washington you're going to need to put in Backstrom/Ovechkin or Alzner/Carlson++.

txpd 02-20-2013 08:37 AM

ok...lets do it. ovechkin for eberle.

sansabri 02-20-2013 08:49 AM

Backstrom for Gagner.

Wow. You have four Wayne Gretzkys there right?

Johnny McBravo 02-20-2013 09:14 AM

This is really bad for the Oilers. No one can justify the other way.

OilCanada92 02-20-2013 09:24 AM

If Eberle is going, it's Carlson or Alzner coming back instead of Green.

Trafalgar McLaw 02-20-2013 09:37 AM

Oilers laugh and hang up before you can finish saying "Jordan Eber"

Where did I say that? Four players with more value than Alzner and Carlson and at least in the neighbourhood of Ovechkin/Backstrom (Oilers would have to add for one of those two)? Yes.

Halpysback* 02-20-2013 09:52 AM

I'd do Carlson and Johansson for Eberle and Petry.

TylerSVT* 02-20-2013 09:52 AM

I would Argue Eberle has more value than Ovi at this point.

Better point production, younger, on a better contract, play actually elevates when needed.

Sure they play different games, but that Ovi contract is abysmal.

I must have missed where he's over PPG in the playoffs and almost .6 GPG. Oilers fans sure are crafty at hiding their stats.

txpd 02-20-2013 09:55 AM

you think eberle for ovechkin straight up is an even swap?

ok....btw...the caps trading green and orlov for whitney makes no sense to a real world general manager. the caps trade green for whitney ONLY if they want to dump the contract. they let whitney walk and essentially get cap space only in that move. the reason you do that is because you have a hot kid defenseman you want in that roster spot. in the caps case that would be orlov.

the reality is that green, carlson, alzner and orlov are great for the caps salary cap construction. no nhl team with those 4 would trade any of them.

the suggestion that ovechkin doesnt elevate for the playoffs is either stupidity or ignorance. he has 30goals and 59pts in 51 playoff games.

eberle has 0goals and 0pts in 0 playoff games. how you could have the first clue that he elevates his game is pure speculation. you honestly think that if chara was checking eberle for 7 straight games that eberle would out perform ovechkin?

what are you smoking?

T_Cage 02-20-2013 10:15 AM

Eberle

For

Jesus
1st round pick

Is the only trade Edmonton fans would accept for Eberle. Don't even bother with him

More value than Carlson or Alzner? C'mon.
One of the best young d-men in the league and best youn defensive d-man in the league. One of them is surely worth at least Hall.
