Defensive Defensemen to MIN

The Wild could use another top-4 LHD, a Brooks Orpik type. They're swimming in wing depth, and I'm sure a couple prospects could be moved. Untouchables are Koivu and the big 2, Zucker, Granlund, Brodin.

Flame away.

Out of curiosity, what would it take for the Leafs to acquire either Coyle, Phillips, or Larsson?

Also, what is each prospect's projection?

Fire Julien 02-20-2013 09:10 AM

Adam McQuaid, Craig Cunningham and Chris Bourque for Johan Larsson, Marco Scandella and Matt Kassian

Perro 02-20-2013 10:33 AM

was going to post something similar but for LA. Maybe a bidding war between the two team.
Need a solid d-man to play 15min a game.

Feed Me A Stray Cat 02-20-2013 10:51 AM

Volchenkov or Tallinder.

for Parise.

Fair?

Badger Mayhew 02-20-2013 10:58 AM

I love him, but Mark Fraser's been playing 15-18 minutes the past 5 games, and currently is tied for the 2nd highest +/- in the league. He's tough as nails to boot.

Coyle for Fraser?

Phillips could be had I imagine, but I think you'd be hard pressed to get Coyle and Larsson away from Fletcher.

Larsson at worst will be a solid 3rd line center(he could step in and do that tomorrow). If his scoring comes along, which the Wild seem to think it will he could be a very good 2C. Likely projection is a tweener who can play either.

Coyle will be a top 6 wing, only question is if he will be an avg one or develop into a very good PF type.

Phillips is still very raw, and has taken to the AHL at a slower pace then the rest of the prospects. He also, atleast early was getting the short end of the stick on linemates and assignments with the center depth we have had there. Next year will be a big year for him to determine if he's got a future in the league.

If anything we need a RHD, we are swimming in LHD. Only good RHD we have is Gilbert. Suter, Brodin, Spurgeon, Stoner, and Falk are all Lefties.

Spurgeon is RD. Really what we have is an inconsistent bottom 3 D. That's partially play, partially injuries. I don't know that a young kid is going out to pick up a 5/6D for the short season.

Fraser is horrible.

PariseSuterKoivu 02-20-2013 11:16 AM

Setoguchi to Pens for Despres. Now get it done Fletcher.

Jesus.

Guess nobody's seen Mark Fraser play this season. He's been great.

ScottyDont 02-20-2013 11:20 AM

Want Murray and Clowe? We'll take Coyle back :naughty:

He has been surprisingly good this season. He's been along for the ride for the Leafs relative success and hasn't been a liability. Again, I don't see any scenario where we give up Coyle for 12 good games of hockey Fraser has put up this year.

Alright, fair enough.

Brodin and Spurgeon play right, and Spurgeon actually is RH.

We'll add PMB+3rd, it's Seto+PMB+3rd for Despres+Kennedy.

No way. Despres is also not a defensive defenseman.

I can't see Despres being moved. Imagine your excitement for someone like Zucker and it's the same for Pens fans with Despres. He's really not someone we'd want to move unless the value is unbelievable.

Niskanen is a RHD that is solid at both ends of the rink these days. He's capable of playing the left or right side. I think he actually prefers the left despite being right-handed. He can easily handle top 4 D minutes (Plays a top 4 role with the Pens) and has experience playing with high level D-Men like Zubov as a rookie in Dallas and currently plays opposite of Letang in Pittsburgh. He's also played with lesser D-Men like Engelland and looked good.

PensBandwagonerNo272 02-20-2013 12:30 PM

Despres' ceiling is a number one dman in my opinion. Size, offensively talented, great skater, good IQ. Once he gains experience and learns to use his size to it's full potential, he's going to be one heck of a dman.

We have a lot of dmen we can deal, but I think Despres along with Letang and Morrow are unmovable.

Done.

Value wise that really is about fair. It also fills a need for both teams.

Where's OCD?:D

To who? I'm not a Seto hater but I wouldn't do Despres for Setoguchi at all. It's also arguable that it fills a need for the Pens since they need consistency on the wings & Seto has been anything but recently.
