Gionta captaincy

How does everyone feel about going into next season with Gionta as captain?

He's a captain who leads by example, yet I feel as though his role and playing time will be diminished next season.

Thoughts?

HabsHockey 07-01-2012 08:32 PM

Gio will give 110% like he always does. Don't expect a 100 pt season out him. Be happy with 60 pts and the fact that he might be the smallest guy on the ice but plays like he's 6'9. Energizer Bunny ftw.

shutehinside 07-01-2012 08:32 PM

Gio is the best captain going. Period.

Halifaxhab 07-01-2012 08:35 PM

why the heck would we change up now?

Kjell Dahlin 07-01-2012 08:37 PM

I feel great about it: he is a good captain and a relentless player. On a side note, Gionta has become (after Gorges and Hamrlik) our most underrated player.

LeHab 07-01-2012 08:40 PM

Great guy, hope he won't end up on the 3rd line like many here wish.

Kimota 07-01-2012 08:41 PM

I like Gio but I see his captaincy as a transitional period before they give it to the real one.

UniverStalinGraduate* 07-01-2012 08:42 PM

Gorges will get the captaincy in time.

They sure as hell aren't going to take it from Gionta though.

1UP 07-01-2012 08:51 PM

The fact he was injured a good portion of last year doesn't mean his leadership qualities disappeared.

I'm happy with him as Captain. And frankly, if Gorges is the leader we think he is, he doesn't need a C on his jersey to be a leader.

I mean, look at Kelowna. He didn't need a C, did he?

Crimson Skorpion 07-01-2012 08:52 PM

Gionta is a legit captain. Only way it changes (to Gorges, most likely) is if Gionta is traded.

HabsPassion 07-01-2012 08:53 PM

Not to confident with him as Captain. His abilities are fading, but heart will always remain. As a player, hes gone down to a third liner. I think their are other people such as Josh Georges who are more capable leaders.

Captain Saku 07-01-2012 08:55 PM

Gio is the captain. There is no debate here.

Coldplay 07-01-2012 08:58 PM

Not this **** again.

Gionta is our captain. Case closed.

Rosso Scuderia 07-01-2012 09:02 PM

As much as I want Gorges to be the captain, right now Gio is our captain and should remain so until he leaves.

Hugo Sham 07-01-2012 09:02 PM

tbh i found it a bit ****ing weird the huge amount of cheer-leading he did for NJ during playoffs but his bro's there...nonetheless for a captain i found it over the top. still a useful player. we need his 2nd line contribution until Gallagher is ready to take his job

Takashi 07-01-2012 09:09 PM

Why would we change captain? just because he was injured
Even when he couldn't play, he travelled with the team for some games

davenash 07-01-2012 09:17 PM

You don't change captains like that.

Gionta is the captain of the team and will remain until he leaves the Habs. Or until he wants to give up the C.

But yeah, we all know who will get the C next.

Exactly. Gorges is the one who will most likely be captain when Gio will be gone, but I wonder if galchenyuk could be it..

Its really doubtful that he gets it before Gorges. They wouldn't give it to Galchenyuk before he's established in the NHL and Gionta will be long gone by then most likely.

Unless of course Galchenyuk makes the NHL this season, wins the Calder then gets like 100 pts the year after but thats extremely unlikely to say the least.

Why Gorges? Its not as if he already has some captaincy experience behind his belt.. :sarcasm:

Gio is a great Captain. He represents what most (I suppose) fans seek. A hard working hart & soul player.

Habs13 07-01-2012 10:04 PM

Still not my captain... still not a Gionta fan, either.

sammy d 07-01-2012 10:19 PM

I feel good with him as captain, best choice on the team right now.

larrypacman8167 07-01-2012 10:57 PM

i have nothin' against Gio, i have a lot of respect for him but IMHO Gorges should be our Kapitan.

JayKing 07-01-2012 11:08 PM

Great Leader. If the captaincy was ever to be changed if Gio got traded or MT doesn't like his ladership, then I,d put my money either on Gorges as captain, Pleks, Cole, Markov/Moen as alternates.

Alexdaman 07-02-2012 12:23 AM

It comes down to him being healthy and evaluating if that will be the case in the future if he is not than he will hold no value in a trade, so if I was MB I'd try to find out what are exactly the odds of him being an healthy scratch or not before seeing him retire or traded for nothing.

If Brian is in good shape than it's a no brainer that he should stay
