Isles/Oilers

To Oilers

Reasoner + (maybe a 6th round pick?)

To Isles

Smyth

Isles may have to add a late pick or something of that but this move gets the Oilers out of Smyths' second year since Reasoner is in the last year of his deal. The reason if I'm the Isles that I do this is that Smyth provides veteran leadership with they sorely lack.

I'm not saying it's the perfect deal but it helps the Oilers dump off that contract while getting a guy who might be able to contribute on the fourth line and it gives the Isles some veteran leadership.

Last couple of games Smyth hasn't been too bad, rather keep him then trade for Reasoner, Oilers pass.

ZenOil 02-20-2013 11:17 AM

Smyth is soooooo slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

CornKicker 02-20-2013 11:17 AM

we already fleeced the isles once with smyth they arent going to fall for that trick again imo

StrongIslanders90 02-20-2013 11:18 AM

If the oilers want Reasner all it would take is a late pick(7th) and he's thiers...

Reasoner had one of his best games as an islander in the 3-1 loss to the SENs

xECK29x 02-20-2013 11:19 AM

I want nothing to do with Ryan Smyth

lol my bad i thought we used that pick to get gagner but it was we got alex plante, and omarra and nilsson so basically we got nothing and you got smyth for 2 months.

my apologys

Smyth won't be dealt. Not sure if people missed when he demanded out of LA and only want to go to Edmonton.

Mc5RingsAndABeer 02-20-2013 12:05 PM

I'm not sure why any team in the league would want Smyth right now.

No, people just don't look into things before posting trades

PWJunior 02-20-2013 12:32 PM

I don't think Smyth would be well received on LI for a 2nd time. Besides, we don't need him back in any deal.

Reasoner for a late pick. Helps out the Oilers in the faceoff dot and can play bottom line minutes. With the emergence of Cizikas, we don't need Reasoner anymore.

Oilers can probably wait anyway and get him off waivers since that's where he's heading.

Does he have a NTC though? I don't think they would trade him, but it may not be up to him.

heusy_79 02-20-2013 12:34 PM

I think Ryan Smyth retires this off-season as an Oiler.

I don't think he does, but why would you trade for a guy that probably retires if you trade for him?

SLAPSHOT723 02-20-2013 01:23 PM

Been there...

Nobody in their right mind would want anything to do with Ryan Smyth (aka the Oilers management is not in their right mind). Smyth is not an NHL player despite the fact that he's played well the past 2 games. You know why he played well? Because he just came off a benching. Within 10 games he'll be back to the old slow useless Smyth.

alphahelix 02-20-2013 02:29 PM

I don't think any value would justify trading Ryan Smyth given the "political" connotations and the value he has as a veteran link to the past for this young team. I mean, sure, if someone wanted to offer a 1st round pick we'd have to entertain that because it would be ridiculous. But nothing that Smyth is actually likely to attain at this time would be worth the distraction and pains.

LotteryForLife* 02-20-2013 04:04 PM

I wouldn't take that piece o' garbage for free after what he did to us in 2007. I hope he gets run over by a zamboni

YearlyLottery 02-20-2013 07:43 PM

I'm still bitter from what he did to us. But for what we give up. I'll take him back.

TheRightWay 02-20-2013 07:46 PM

I must have missed Charles Wang's announcement that he intends on adding to the payroll.

We'll send you Horcoff. Cap hit is 5.5M but actual salary is only 4M next yr and 3M the following. Should satisfy Wang.

Smyth is probably more likely thinking about his next contract than hanging up the skates with another year left on his current one.

thadd 02-20-2013 10:14 PM

That would be so hilarious!

We could watch him cry in the airport again!
