Mtl-phi

W.Simmonds & M.Talbot to the Habs.

What would it take?

My suggestion:

Eller,Diaz,CGY 2nd pick (almost a first rounder)

Gives MTL 2 strong gritty forwards that can chip in some offense. Philly gets Diaz, who has flourished this year, and can really help that crippled blueline, Eller is a great building block, young and only getting better, the pick speaks for itself. Points wise, its almost even. Basically trading styles of play here. Montreal can use more gritty offensive forwards, and Philly can use some talent on the back end, and Ellers strong 2way play.

Might be a little much coming from MTLs side, but i think this benefits both sides.

Thoughts?

Not saying anything is wrong with your value necessarily, but I can tell you the Flyers most likely wouldn't entertain the thought of moving Simmonds. Short of ridiculous overpayment of course.

Hugo Sham 02-22-2013 12:39 AM

philly could 100% use diaz, but he's been so good for Habs i'm not sure bergevin would consider him for simmonds. Diaz is way more valuable than talbot. Eller and Talbot - Lars is younger and still has upside...It's an interesting trade. It boils down to a gritty 25 goal scorer vs an emerging, 1st unit PP, PMD

Krishna 02-22-2013 12:43 AM

Flyers say no since we are already weak with wings right now due to injuries

Philadelphia Ducks 02-22-2013 12:49 AM

No thanks. Not moving Simmonds, he's a solid winger for the second pair and has arguably been our best and most consistent forward this season.

dahrougem2 02-22-2013 12:49 AM

Don't think Philadelphia will do this. Talbot is a very useful player for them, and Simmonds is a very rare player who has the size, grit, speed, and skill that GM's covet when looking for power forwards, and he's young so he has a lot more room to grow and refine his game.

Eller is nice, and Diaz is having a great season but that doesn't get it done for the Flyers. Don't think that the 2nd is enough to entice Philly

Diaz has more value than Simmonds? Not sure I'm following that one. So Read should get me Subban?

Definite no to the OP proposal as well.

Anyway, Simmonds is not really available short of overpayment, so he's not really available short of Subban, if he was even made available for Subban. That's pretty much all there is to this conversation.

The Habs gets so many PP dmen specialist, it's quite impressive. (Sourray, Streit, Diaz)

mcphllp 02-22-2013 01:00 AM

whole lot of junk for 2 useful players

With the start of the season they have both had, Habs will not let them go.

Thats not exactly what he said. He said Diaz is playing like a stud right now and the Habs are winning. The same can be said for Eller.

Why would the habs even think of moving them when things are going so well? Since the habs have 3 second round picks, Id rather not make any moves until the deadline and use 1 or 2 of those picks to plug any holes (if the habs are still going strong)

well IMHO, that is an overpayment ! What more do u want for a 25 goal scorer and a 3rd liner? You telling me it would take Subban, and from the sound of it, u think habs would need to add..that is freaking laughable. Cmon now. Ud have to add to Simmons and Talbot to get Subban, not the other way around:laugh:

Any realistic and thoughtful counter proposal or did u just wanna post ur ridiculous troll comment?!

I get what ur saying....just we have too many of the same type of players right now and I think it's a perfect time to add a different element on our offense...Eller and Diaz are playing great but we have players that can replace them by taking more minstrel (ie. Subban)

Miller Time 02-22-2013 11:32 AM

Glad flyers fans aren't interested, b/c it's a definite no from Mtl...

I'm a fan of Simmonds, but Eller/Diaz/high 2nd is too much to give up for him & Talbot doesn't even come close to bridge the gap.

Just to let you know, diaz is our best dman this season, better than subban.

Matt Read was our best forward for a while.

That does not imply Matt Read > Claude Giroux.

Diaz is comparable to Rafalski and he have the potential to become that good.

LOL.

Simmonds >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Diaz.

Simmonds had as many goals last year (28) as Diaz has career NHL points.

And Simmonds is 2.5 years younger.

That's like saying Matt Read has Martin St. Louis-esque potential.

The man has played 76 games, and he's already 27.

I know Simmonds has more value then Diaz but this argument isn't really good.

Comparing goals from a forward to points for a defenseman in his 2nd season.

BTW Diaz is 3rd in the NHL in points for defenseman.

I think you r wrong Diaz played his first season on a ice of the nhl dimension the last year so you can't consider that first step as a basis.

He was the best dman in the league he played during the lockout and that include the north american player.

If we look the way he play right now I sincerly think that Diaz could become more valuable than Simmond.

Tripod 02-22-2013 12:57 PM

oh dear. Diaz is not worth Simmonds in ANY way you try and spin it!
Diaz for Talbot...sure...but not for Simmonds

the habs would be stupid if they trade him for talbot.

I say diaz should not be available and they should keep him to see if he can be consistent an entire season.
