Hipchecking
Not used much in the NHL these days, eh?
|
Ever since they called the penalty on Ballard/Hamhuis PERFECT hipcheck during the playoffs last year , Players are basically afraid to even use it anymore.
|
Correctly, at least.
|
No because every hip check is called a low-bridge now.

The Sullivan hip is an absolute beauty. So effortless, yet effective

It's a lost art.

If you miss a hipcheck, you put yourself way out of position. And if you hit the player too low, you'll get a penalty and possibly injure someone badly. |
Gotta be good at it. Otherwise you just look like a dumbass.
|
Half the time it's interference now. At least in Junior hockey.

In b4 Kyle McLaren videos.
I miss hipchecks though, with today's officiating they're all but out of the game Here's a nice one from Ian White a few years back. One of my favourite moments of him |
Rob Blake and his fat ass was the king of hipchecks.

Yup, Ballard and Hamhuis could be hoola-hoop champs with dose hips.
|
I wouldn't put Ballard in the same conversation as Hamhuis. Hamhuis knows how to deliver clean hipchecks (same goes with Doughty). A lot of Ballard's hip checks look like they are knee-level.

canucks party all up in 'ere
|
Another plus for the nhls anti canucks conspiracy
