Hipchecking
 

Not used much in the NHL these days, eh?

Ever since they called the penalty on Ballard/Hamhuis PERFECT hipcheck during the playoffs last year , Players are basically afraid to even use it anymore.

Correctly, at least.

No because every hip check is called a low-bridge now.

Yeah, why is that? I remember Scott Stevens doing it the best when I was younger, albeit his was a little smoother than Hall's attempt :laugh:

Ha, nice! Bozak wasn't expecting that at all. I'd like to see more of the ol' boys club bring back some hip checks, I bet it would really throw off some of the young guys.

Yes, but it's not the end of the world.
If you miss a hipcheck, you put yourself way out of position. And if you hit the player too low, you'll get a penalty and possibly injure someone badly.

Gotta be good at it. Otherwise you just look like a dumbass.

Half the time it's interference now. At least in Junior hockey.

I miss hipchecks though, with today's officiating they're all but out of the game

Here's a nice one from Ian White a few years back. One of my favourite moments of him

Rob Blake and his fat ass was the king of hipchecks.

Yup, Ballard and Hamhuis could be hoola-hoop champs with dose hips.

I wouldn't put Ballard in the same conversation as Hamhuis. Hamhuis knows how to deliver clean hipchecks (same goes with Doughty). A lot of Ballard's hip checks look like they are knee-level.
