Indian descent Prospects?

Are there any prospects of Indian descent(from India) in any league?

SmellOfVictory 02-22-2013 01:01 PM

Kevin Sundher? Not even sure if he's Indian, to be honest.

viper0220 02-22-2013 01:09 PM

Vancouver has Rai.

Kadri for the Leafs, although I wouldn't consider him a prospect any longer.

WJG 02-22-2013 01:14 PM

Kevin Sundher and Prab Rai, IIRC

Descent, not birth. Unless you're just making commentary on the fact that Surrey has a large Indian population.

Machinehead 02-22-2013 01:16 PM

Rickjeet Nashpur :sarcasm:

Just wondering, Malhotra is an Indian name isn't it?

Malhotra is indeed partially of Indian descent, he's hardly a prospect though. ;)

don't know if he's of Indian descent, but he's definitely of South Asian descent. he mentions some others in this interview:

Quote:

“There’s some older players who are South Asian as well, [Buffalo Sabres prospect] Kevin Sundher and [Vancouver Canucks farmhand] Prab Rai,” he said. “They’ve made it a little higher, signing with NHL clubs. There’s recognition for me, but you want to catch those guys.”

The next generation will surely have one player of Indian descent come up. There's plenty that have gotten into the game and considering Indians only arrived here in the 70's and 80's, it would have been surprising to see those kids make a name. It would be insane if an Indian player does make the NHL and Team Canada one day, hopefully happens soon. It would show so much of the countries multiculturalism if one day Team Canada would have an Indian, Chinese and Black player on the roster, who knows maybe in the next 20 years or so

They say jared bethune is the next tj oshie. pure Indian

puckfan13 02-23-2013 02:15 AM

Tyler Sandhu on Everett is having a pretty good rookie season for a 16-year-old right now. Surprised he's from Richmond not Surrey haha, could be the first one not from Surrey.

Wouldn't count it out. The children of the first wave of immigrants from South Asia and Pacific Rim are all grown up now and grew up surrounded by the game, obviously it doesn't completely jive with their cultures, but I think we can all agree here hockey's grip is a little too hard to resist for some. The children of those second generation immigrants are having kids of their own and signing them up for hockey now and have been for the last 10-15 years, I wouldn't be surprised to see a *relative* influx of East Indian and Asian prospects in the coming 10 years, particularly from Vancouver and Toronto. There has been a pretty noticeable increase in black prospects in the OHL from the large populations in the GTA, it will be both interesting and exciting to see the development of this. The game is great and everybody in our country should be experiencing it.

Another mention for Tyler Sandhu of the Everett Silvertips. He's a 16 year old rookie and was recently called the best 16 year old player in the "Best of the West" poll. It polls team staffs from the WHL's Western Conference.
