No idea but the Predator's site is reporting it. Never remember him being signed but it says he's in Milwaukee. Even the Milwaukee website lists him.

wouldn't he be a free agent if we didn't sign him? Wasn't he an overager?

I thought he would have been a free agent too. Maybe milwaukee signed him to a tryout?? I just know that I haven't heard a single thing about Nashville signing him.

SNA I agree, but listening to the few times Poile, Trotz and this morning Greg Johnson have spoke about the young defensemen they all talk about how Schnabel has looked good, he may make it over Hamhuis at first.

Predators GM David Poile announced Tuesday that the club has reassigned forwards Greg Classen, Mathieu Darche, Mike Farrell and Darren Haydar and defenseman Ray Schultz to the Milwaukee Admirals of the American Hockey League

OK, so we have 16 forwards, 10 defenseman and 2 goalies. We only need 12 forwards and 6 Dman and a couple of scratches. Stars are the players who are virtual locks.

Out of the first group, McKenzie is a lock for a roster spot (though he may not be in the opening lineup). McKenzie has a one way contract, and Poile has yet to send someone with a one-way contract to the AHL.

I fully expect Erat to be in the opening night lineup as well.

I think Tootoo will play opening night for PR reasons, and because a bunch of Eskimos are coming to Nashville to see him. But, I expect him to be sent to Milwaukee eventually, unless of course, his play proves otherwise.

Simon and Fiddler will compete for the 13th spot (depth forward). If McKenzie isn't in the lineup opening night, one of them will be.

Upshall has a slim chance. With the way he plays, he'd fit in well on a 4th line (like he did last year). But, he should get PT in Milwaukee in my opinion. It just depends on the way he plays the rest of the preseason i guess.

Likewise, I think both Zidlicky and Kloucek are locks. They have one way contracts.

I think Allison will make the team, but I'm not sure if he'll be playing opening night. A lot will depend on York's status.

The remaining fight is between Murphy and Hamhuis. Again, I'd have say it depends on the rest of the preseason. Right now, I'd give the edge to Murphy for wavier reasons. Give him a chance at the NHL level before taking the risk of loosing him to the wavier wire.

Here's my picks:

Forwards

10 Martin Erat L 6' 0" 195 22 Milwaukee (AHL)
19 Jim McKenzie L 6' 4" 230 33 New Jersey (NHL)
55 Jordin Tootoo R 5' 9" 193 20 Brandon (WHL)

Defense

43 Dan Hamhuis D 6' 0" 208 20 Milwaukee (AHL)
28 Tomas Kloucek D 6' 3" 225 23 Milwaukee (AHL)
3 Marek Zidlicky D 5' 11" 187 26 HIFK Helsinki (Finland)

triggrman 09-23-2003 11:51 AM

I too think Kloucek is a lock, however I'm not convienced Zidlicky is. Also I think it will come down to Zidlicky, Hamhuis and Schnabel. I think two of these three will have a job. Allison might make it if, York and/or McKenzie are out as he can also play forward, but he's gone as soon as we get healthy. I think if you base it off of this preseason, from what I've heard Hamhuis should make it even over Zidlicky, but I listening to Poile, Trotz and Johnson I believe it will be Zidlicky and Schnabel, again, I think Hamhuis is better than both, but I think his youth will keep him in the AHL atleast to start the season.

Forwards, I think Tootoo, Erat, McKenzie and one gritty forward (aka healthy scratch) will make it. Upshall starts the season with the Ads.

Also, from every count I've heard Tootoo has not been given anything but has earned his way onto this team. I've talked to countless hockey friends of mine who all love Tootoo and these are guys that know hockey, not hype.

i'm bewildered that hutchinson hasn't been cut, yet. i'd, at this point, take mighty mouse murphy over that guy.

They must be seeing something that we aren't. He was getting serious PP time during the Chicago game (in Nashville). I had no idea he was considered in any way to be an offensive Dman. Hesitated several times to get rid of the puck from the point (it's funny because he seemed to have the same problem I anticipated Hamhuis having: Not shooting the puck at the right times) and it cost him as shots got blocked or his pocket got picked. I think he is next in line for cuts. Of all the Dmen left, he's IMO the least ready to take an NHL seat.

biscuithead 09-24-2003 02:22 AM

How the Tennessean sees it:
Forwards.
Denis Arkhipov
Adam Hall
Scott Hartnell
Martin Erat
Andreas Johansson
Greg Johnson
David Legwand
Jim McKenzie
Rem Murray
Vladimir Orszagh
Scott Walker.

That would leave two fourth-line spots, assuming the team carries 13 forwards.

Right wing Jordin Tootoo appears to be a strong candidate to earn one of those positions.

The other opening might be for a centerman, meaning Fiddler, Ben Simon, Wyatt Smith and Scottie Upshall still seem to have legitimate shots at the position.

The knee injury to McKenzie might open another spot, as he may not be ready to return in time for the opener. That might prove beneficial for defenseman Jamie Allison, a scrappy player who could be used at forward temporarily to replace McKenzie.

• Defense.
Kimmo Timonen
Jason York
Mark Eaton
Tomas Kloucek
Marek Zidlicky

That leaves two openings, assuming the Predators carry seven defensemen, as is usually the case.

Allison's experience and toughness makes him a likely candidate for one spot, though if he begins the season at forward, two spots will remain open.

The Predators like some parts of the 6-5, 230-pound Robert Schnabel's game, so they're likely to give him a shot to succeed on the NHL level. That would appear to leave Dan Hamhuis, Andrew Hutchinson and Curtis Murphy tangling for the final position.

Dulzhok is just one of those people who try to find something to complain about. No matter what the Predators do, they find some kind of fault. The Preds would win the Stanley Cup and they would complain about something.

But thats ok, plenty of people doubt the Predators and make remarks at every move the Predators organization makes, so this is nothing new.

As far as the "Eskimos" thing, you got to be kidding me. If the Predators wanted to create PR like that, they'd sign players from all kind of countries and have them play their first game with the Preds. Notice they don't do that. Tootoo has had a great preseason. He came to camp and impressed the coaches and the organization. Then during the games he was very effective. Tootoo created energy for the team. He drew many penalities, giving the Preds powerplays. He even got himself a few goals during the weekend. How he plays during the season is to be seen, but he has given the organization no reason to doubt him.

Agreed, Tootoo is a frontrunner for preseason MVP of the Predators. If that doesn't earn you a roster spot, stop wasting your time in hockey.
