NotProkofievian 02-24-2013 08:40 AM

Had a feeling he would.

Analyzer* 02-24-2013 08:42 AM

Probably 1 game I think.

Nedved 02-24-2013 08:42 AM

why?

this play happens 20 times a night in the nhl.

Bob b smith 02-24-2013 08:44 AM

That means suspension. +1 game because of repeat offender status. =2 games.

PhysicX 02-24-2013 08:46 AM

Anything more than a 1 Game suspension is ridiculous.

Leo Getz 02-24-2013 08:48 AM

Probably will get a game or two. Really don't think he should though. McDonagh knew exactly where he was.

idk 02-24-2013 08:51 AM

Is McDo having a hearing foe his hit where he rode Patches numbers for about four feet beforw apiking him into thw boards? Unless he is Shannahan has no business having a hearing for Patches. Discipline in this league is a joke - its not about what you do its about how loudly you whine in what markets.

McDonagh's hit wasn't as hard as Patches

BLONG7 02-24-2013 08:55 AM

Was there a hearing for Schenn after he drove Bgally into the boards last week? :shakehead

Le Tricolore 02-24-2013 08:57 AM

Strong hockey play.

shutehinside 02-24-2013 09:00 AM

What I don't like about this is McD saw him coming coming and rather than brace himself to absorb the hit, he turned his back to face the boards at the last second. After what he did to Pax and Prust, he knew he was going to get hit. Pax will get suspended for McD's brain fart. That's fair?

almostjesus* 02-24-2013 09:00 AM

It's a little early for an April Fools gag isn't it?

OH wait! This is serious?

What a joke.

Luigi Habs 02-24-2013 09:00 AM

So if he get suspended it's because he hit him too hard? Because the hit was legal.

Not where someone's face is smashed into the glass, they're cut open and bleeding pretty bad + leaves the game and doesn't return.

If McDo had returned there would be no hearing. NHL works on a "did he get hurt" basis which is terrible.

Habs 1909 02-24-2013 09:01 AM

I expect 2 games.

McDonagh suffered an injury on the play, it was retaliation for a previous play, and he has a history.

No out wasn't. It was a dumb hit, but McDonagh put himself in a vulnerable situation.

If he even gets one game, this would be a complete JOKE!!!

He made a hockey play an McDo actually turned into him.

Even the NYR announcers wondered why there was even a penalty!!!

Schenn's hit on Gallagher was worse!

Just insane that there is even going to be a "hearing".

Shanahan.... you're becoming a joke!

MtlSportsFan 02-24-2013 09:06 AM

Meh, it was a borderline hit that home fans never think is anything but a clean hit and the other teams think is vicious and deserves 6-10 games for a dirty player. Truth is always somewhere in between.

Patches will get a game, maybe another one because of circumstances.

habfaninvictoria 02-24-2013 09:07 AM

I'm ok with a hearing for this.... but....

All I'm hearing in the press is that Patches did this because McDo hit him... probably true. Lets go back a couple years, to the Chara thing.... everyone and his dog knew that was retaliation but you can't prove that kind of thing so Chara got nothing. It'll be ironic if Patches gets suspended for this.

Also, not for nothing but... if I'm patches and I get my bell rung by another player, and I also know this league has done nothing to protect me in the past, I'm going to do something about it myself. This probably doesn't happen if McDo had been assessed a penalty. Perhaps the next time someone thinks about running him they'll think twice.

As for the hit... McDo knew he was coming and had a clear choice to continue around the boards, he'll probably lose the puck and create a chance, but.... he chose to turn into a vulnerable position.

I find it amusing that this gets a hearing, but, Colton Orr in a clear rage over his stick being tossed going after a knee doesn't. This is why the NHL has injury problems. Don't punish the result, punish the intent and you'll have far less injuries.

And I didn't think it was dirty at all....but I realize I'm a homer !

these type of plays will continue because there are no preventable measures being taken by the league. only reactionary injury based. reminds me of a failed prison-system.

Pretty much.

If I take a run at you, catch you, but you get up slowly, but stay in the game. I get 2 minutes... MAYBE no suspension.

If I take a run at you, catch you and hurt you. I get 2 maybe 5 and probably a game suspension. Not really a deterrent to go after you again.

McDo got back up from the hit right away which is pretty impressive.

Pacs didn't leave his feet and the point of contact doesn't seem to be the head, but McDo is in a vulnerable position and of course, he was hurt. I think a game, but 2 wouldn't surprise me.

LeMAD 02-24-2013 09:14 AM

One game would be fair, especially since it was a retaliation.
