British TV shows

the girlfriend has me watching Misfits and this show is amazing, does anyone know of other shows like this one?

montreal 02-25-2013 02:37 PM

I haven't seen that show but i'm hooked on Copper and i've been meaning to check out Ripper Street (about Jack the Ripper), heard good things about it and the previews look good. I also liked Outcast but it was cut after 10 episodes.

Ripper Street is fantastic. It's not about Jack the Ripper though.

Some good British comedy series:

The Inbetweeners
Friday Night Dinner
Fresh Meat
Bad Eduction

You should be able to find them online easily

Thanks guys, she's obsessed with British culture... by which I mean she likes British comedians... by which I mean she likes a few select shows

I'll keep an eye out for these ones, thanks a ton!

you can't honestly recommend a British comedy show without posting Peep Show.

This.
(plus their sketch show, That Mitchell and Webb Look)

Check out Luther, it's very good if you enjoy poice shows. It stars Idris Elba from the Wire.

Skins was great, but got worse each time the cast changed. Misfits is kind of the same boat, as cast members drop from that show like flies. It's just no the same.

As for comedies, I love the Mighty Boosh and Garth Marenghi's Darkplace. But that's a very specific type of humour that isnt for everyone.

As mentioned before, inbetweeners is hilarious. If you like that you'd enjoy Fresh Meat and Friday Night Dinners (both star former Inbetweeners).

Spaced is decent, stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. IT Crowd has it's moments.

QI is a amazing, and I don't really like panel shows.

Everlasting 02-25-2013 04:10 PM

IT crowd and Sherlock.

The Mighty Boosh

British > American shows.

First 4 seasons of skins were pretty good

I like the movie This is England. They followed it up with the mini series This is England '86, then '88, and soon to be '90. The first two series were great. The movie is on Netflix, the series can probably be found on youtube.

Man, '90 broke my heart. Such a good series/film.

Whites, unfortunately there's only one season of the show though.

Baarle 02-25-2013 09:42 PM

Little Britain

The Thick of it

Luther, Hunted, Sherlock, Line of Duty, and Good Cop are very good.

Now, I find that British panel shows exceptional. Watch QI (Quite Interesting), Would I Lie to You (absolutely hilarious), and 8 Out of 10 Cats if you have time. You should find most of these panel shows on youtube.

Glad HBO turned me on to that show. Hilarious.

Johnny LaRue 02-26-2013 01:28 AM

It's an older show, but I love Yes, Minister! It's easily the most clever political show every made.

Other shows include Rumpole of the Bailey, Sherlock, Chef! and Poirot.

charlie460 02-26-2013 03:00 AM

Watch Black Mirror and Utopia.

SolidSnakeUS 02-26-2013 04:04 AM

The only British show I still watch really are Doctor Who and Top Gear (more Top Gear than anything).

AZPenguins 02-26-2013 05:40 AM

Top Gear

Coupling

Wire in the Blood

Whitechapel

Blue Murder
Ripper Street

Big Brother UK is great. Best thing I've watched on TV.

Jill Sandwich 02-26-2013 05:59 AM

My roommate had me watching Misfits yesterday as well. Good show.

I've also seen Sherlock and Luther which are both pretty great. Maybe Sherlock kind of jumped it in season 2.

I like the "panel of comedians" shows that seem to be popular overseas. Mock the Week, 8 Out of 10 Cats, etc.
