Who`s our best pure body checker??

In lieu of some of the opinions/concerns about the lack of perceived toughness/physicality of the play from our boys, had me thinking. Simple question, not sure we have a consistently hard hitting player but my opinion is, based on the speed he generates and his strength, I`d hate to be smacked by Paille.

Johnny B has had some crushers but Paille`s would be awful to receive

Have fun, pls let`s not have this deteriorate into a we need this guy or that guy thread:)

I'm never sure what "pure" really means in sports discussions. I guess you just mean best body checker. I think it's Boychuk.

Hnidy Hnight 02-28-2013 09:50 AM

My vote is Boychuk. A huge hit in 2010 helped change that Buffalo series.

Probably poor wording on my part, I suppose I should have said or described it maybe as "in open ice" who would you least like to be smacked by?

I still go with Paille strictly on the speed of which he reaches his contact point

At 170lbs, I`m sure I wouldn`t like to get hit by even Marchand:sarcasm:

If you say most consistent hitter, it's Lucic. If you say guy who delivers the biggest hits, I'd say Boychuk. If you say person I'd least like to get hit cleanly by, it's Chara.

Thornton by far!

Talking open ice hits I agree about Boychuk. Set him up for one on Silfverberg and he won't get a shot away tonight!

Walkenthewalk 02-28-2013 09:56 AM

Boychuk, Lucic & Seidenberg.

Eennad142 02-28-2013 09:58 AM

Hopefully no acquisitions over the age of 35 will be considered in this one.
Best bodychecker short list: Camara. Boychuck. Marchand.
I am reminded of Marchand's open ice checks/hits on Malkin & Phaneuf. Low center of gravity.

Same color as the habs jersey

In the "least like to get hit by" category, I would have to go with Chara (ask Miro Satan) just because of his immense size. I'm thinking my entire body would break if he ever hit me clean.

I think the player who has the best combination of mentality and technique is Lucic.

I can see where you are coming from with Paille b/c he is a very fundamentally sound checker, and his speed plays a role in how hard he can hit.

CamTheMan 02-28-2013 11:13 AM

I would love for Boychuk to come out with his best hit of the season tonight against one Chris Neil. He is owed a big one....

These are the 3 I would say as well.

I have to think it's Lucic if we're just talking "who wouldn't you like to get hit by". It doesn't seem like he's playing that aggressive this year, but when he does hit, it scares people. They hear the footsteps for the rest of the game.

I'd have to go with Lucic. He's really consistent and efficient, and hits VERY hard. Our hardest hitter would probably be Boychuk, and our most efficient/smartest hitters are probably Seidenberg and Chara.

bruins04 02-28-2013 11:55 AM

players voted Lucic as the toughest in the NHL, so i have to go with Looch. That freight train is something you have to be aware of every time you're on the ice.

Maybe, though I like to imagine before Lucic lines someone up he says something scary like "you got a real purdy mouth", so maybe it's that.

Neely08 02-28-2013 12:28 PM

Anyone can hurt you on a dirty hit. Lucic can hurt you on the clean ones.

Why most D men will not touch the puck first in a race w/ Looch.

You know who does that? But absolutely destroys people when he does?

Kronwall.

You can hear skates digging in when going back to get pucks that have been dumped in. Grabs your attention pretty quick in a hard hitting game!

do those spikes on the boot bottom and toe of mountain climbers have special names? If so then i think we have a winner. If they are just called spikes then never mind.

XtremeofParanoia 02-28-2013 02:02 PM

Manchuk

ORRMAN 02-28-2013 03:57 PM

Boychuk is the best open ice hitter. That kind of hit takes a special kind of timing. Hitting along the boards? Lucic and Chara. I believe Chara "pulls" most of his hits, otherwise they'd be contract hits.
