Top 10 pick or playoffs

Just out of curiosity, what would you guys want? The Jets to make the playoffs this year or a top 10 pick this year? And why would you want that? Knowing full well that the draft this year is very deep and we could get a player, that may be a very good player and a game changer.

WpgBoy84 02-28-2013 11:54 PM

Playoffs.

Why? Please answer:)

You play to win the game.

That Is correct but imagine, if we got Mackinnon, Seth Jones, Drouin or Barkov(one of them), then we be really winning.

Turbofan 03-01-2013 12:04 AM

Rather have playoffs than top 10.

Playoffs or top 4 though, hmm...

truck 03-01-2013 12:05 AM

Playoffs. If they make the playoffs without getting lucky (which is all but off the table at this point) it will require growth from key young players. That development lessens the need for a top 10 pick and gets them moving forward in the right direction.

Could also look at it like...

Imagine one of our good young players stops being good. Then we coyld get another goo young player.

Playoffs AINEC

Inflict 03-01-2013 12:13 AM

I didn't buy season tickets just so the Jets could tank for a high draft pick. We already have a great young core, so I'm going with playoffs all the way.

Lomac 03-01-2013 12:19 AM

Top 10 pick, since I don't have first pick at playoffs this season as a half-season ticket holder :)

garret9 03-01-2013 12:24 AM

The constant want to tank for draft picks on HFBoards should never realistically be wanting.

You want your team to succeed to it's best abilities always. Your core progressing and your youth developing. You want to develop a winning culture.

Also, diving for picks may seem sexy when you're not succeeding but what happens if that group struggles:
Do you re-dive again? Do you become the next CBJ? Do you want to become a feeder team or farm team for the contenders?
You have to look at how the rest of the core ages. Sure you get a great top prospect, but by the time that prospect starts taking significant minutes, how many of your core players have already begun to regress?

Yup. Way I see it this year is our first year to get the young guys playoff experience. Next year with our core we start to compete. Kaner and Bogo and our young core will learn about playoff atmosphere

DespoticNewt 03-01-2013 12:45 AM

Playoffs. Definitely playoffs. A top 10 pick is nice, but that's only because you sucked hard enough to get there.

ahplk 03-01-2013 12:48 AM

I'm fine with playoffs as long as we don't turn into some crazy buyer at the deadline and mortgage the future. With 3 2nd rounders and 2 3rd's this draft, we should be able to add a bit of depth (if need be) for a playoff run.

That being said, I don't want to see all of our UFA assets walk for nothing (Hainsey, Antro, Wellwood, Mittens) just because we might have a chance at the 8th spot.

You never know what can happen once you make the playoffs. Just the excitment to see your team have a chance to win the Cup would be amazing.
You play the game to win, not to lose.

Gnova 03-01-2013 01:02 AM

Anyone on the Jets board that doesn't pick playoffs as a answer should be digitally tarred and feathered and banned from the board.

Sweech 03-01-2013 01:13 AM

Playoffs absolutely.

Good players can be found all over the draft.

Playoffs because I want to see our city go nuts.

speaking of playoffs and going nuts, I just talked to a Leafs fan. He still found a way to bring up the high stick that Gretzky issued.

What a strange question. I mean really...seeing your team win....or failing miserably. Unless you have some strange self deprecating/punishment fetish/closet oilers fan, in which case you need to be seeking psychological help instead if posting here...the answer should be obvious.

Playoffs.

PaperRockChamp 03-01-2013 01:32 AM

Playoffs.

Leave the losing culture to teams like Edmonton, Columbus and Toronto.

Tom ServoMST3K 03-01-2013 01:38 AM

Playoffs?

We talkin' PLAYOFFS?

But seriously, playoffs
