6'6", 245. Always posts big PIM totals. Here's some of his fights. Don't know how good he is on offense (his numbers would suggest not good) but maybe some much needed aggression, finally? Hey, it only cost us our best d-man.

Mogo 03-03-2013 06:03 AM

Campbell is our best dman. Yonkman doesn't hit as much as you'd want with that frame. But he's better than Kuba

 as bad as kuba is, he's not as bad as yonkman

Meh. Yonkman fights. At least that's something. And he got captaincy in San Antonio. Must be a reason why. Right?

Campbell has been a major disappointment this year

RainingRats 03-03-2013 09:52 AM

He's enormous and slow.

Yup. You can tell from all the penalties he's been taking he's not on his game. Out of position, tries to do too much, and sucks 5 on 5.

Slick Cat 03-03-2013 09:54 AM

Giving Ellerby away for nothing looks like a very shortsighted move right now

Panthers607 03-03-2013 09:56 AM

Saying Campbell has been a "major" dissapointment is straight up false.
He's not playing like last year, but still solid and putting up points and goals.

The center they traded, Lokonitov or whatever his name is who we should have got for Ellerby.

ShootIt 03-03-2013 09:59 AM

Campbell has not played as well, But, to call him a major disappointment is dishonest. He goes from being paired with Garrison to barely getting time to gel with a declining defenseman in Kuba

He was a top 10 d-man last year. He is held to a very high standard and is paid as such. Last season he would control the game and make great plays each night. He never took any penalties and was an asset 5 on 5. This year, not so much.

He is playing slow and soft and losing almost every battle. At seven mill per year that is a major disappointment.

Benched 03-03-2013 12:35 PM

Official. Yonkman up.

Disagree. He still logs big minutes and plays relatively responsibly. He's put up some numbers this year. Perhaps not the player he was last season, but he's still noticeably the best talent on the team with the way he skates with confidence, moves the puck down the ice, and takes control of the game from the defensive side.

His game is off, but I think it's a lot easier to not appreciate how good he actually is when this team is losing. And... as for the money... not something we need to consider. If you really wan't to talk about his contract, we could easily just be talking about Rostislav Olesz right now...

Well, probably because he's an AHL journeyman at the age of 31. Sadly, I don't think it's because he's any better than the rest.

Mogo 03-03-2013 12:45 PM

Funny how Campbell get's bashed yet he's 5th in the league among dmen in points. Sure he's not playing as good as last season but he's still racking up points

This.

He's by far our best D-man. Especially with offensive defensemen, a horrible team can make u look bad defensively. He already has more goals than last year and is on a 54pt pace on a full season. Last year he had the help of the first line playing well, this year he has had pretty much no help from them.

He's never been a shutdown defenseman. Last year Garrison kind of helped him with that. Soupy's minutes may not have increased, but he has been asked to do much more this year due to lack of quality and injuries. (No real first line, other defensemen suck defensively, no goals from Garrison on the PP)

People are way too harsh on Campbell. He's not as good as last year, but doesn't suck like many other last years performers.

Other than the obvious reason, we want to tank the season for a high pick, I'll love to hear the reason Tallon called up Yonkman, -18, rather than Brendon Nash, +9.

Last year, he had a d-partner who was actually NHL caliber. This year, he has a partner who looks like he might be good playing in a nursing home.

Campbell is not worth 7 million. Very few players are. It is what it is. He's fine. All in all, he's not playing as well as last year, but he's not playing much worse.

Even last year, I felt he was always rather soft and not all that great 5v5.

He's a great PMD who probably hasn't been as effective offensively because his d-partner is a pylon.

JonathanHuberdoh 03-03-2013 11:01 PM

Because of Campbell's conditioning and the way he plays the game, he's going to be a great guy to have on this team until he retires. He should be this team's captain.

+1
Hopefully he can be the captain next season.

Getting way too harsh on Campbell, imo. We knew what type of player he was when Tallon acquired him. He wasn't a Pronger style defenseman. He is an offensive, defenseman who isn't physical.

As Erick said, we didn't notice that last year due to his partner doing most of the dirty work, IIRC, around the boards and in the crease.
I hope they just throw Gudbranson with him from here on out. Then throw Kuba in Club Red.

Boothinator 03-04-2013 05:27 AM

Compare Campbell to Kuba and you know why should appreciate it that he is playing for our team..

I mean aside from the first line Campbell is puttting up points on a regular basis..

Kuba hasnt done anything good so far. Neither defensively nor offensively
