If you were a player, which number would you wear?

Which number would you pick if you were a player? I was wondering if people were more likely to go for a low number that players seem to pick a lot or if people would go for a higher number that players don't often choose so that their name would be associated with that number. For example when you hear the number 87, you immediately think of Crosby

Edit: I would wear #23 because that is the number I have been wearing for my whole life

SLAPSHOT723 03-03-2013 07:17 PM

I would want #23. Michael Jordan was my hero as a child and I'm born on July 23rd.

Brian Leetch and Derek Jeter are 2 of my favorite players, have always used it since i was 6 so no reason not to.

Kyrie irving uses also and is prob my favorite currant basketball player.

24

Been wearing it since I was a kid.

I was a dman so I'd want a low number.

2, 4, 5. I used to wear 12, 44 and 55 as well, but I prefer the lower old school numbers.

JurassicTunga 03-03-2013 07:27 PM

88

My favourite number.

KingBuzzo 03-03-2013 07:28 PM

My only number for both hockey and lacrosse was #7.

Leizi 03-03-2013 07:29 PM

8, tribute to the real great 8 that is Teemu Selšnne.

Staxgod90 03-03-2013 07:29 PM

probably #8 to honor my dad's soccer career

LatvianTwist 03-03-2013 07:29 PM

#72. Opposite of my birthday and I love how it looks on jerseys.

Pyromaniac3 03-03-2013 07:29 PM

Something in the 90s where my birth year's last two digits falls.

Turrican* 03-03-2013 07:30 PM

13

Birthday. And I also like datsyuk and Todd Harvey.

Schalkenullvier* 03-03-2013 07:30 PM

8, 10 or 11

I'm a 7 guy in football, but for some reason I don't think it looks good on a hockey jersey.

FLYERSFAN18 03-03-2013 07:30 PM

I'm surprised no one put 69 yet. That must be a record for a thread like this. I guess i just ruined that.

When I played I wore number 5 because i thought the idea of a forward wearing number 5 was funny, also Smid is my favourite player.

Kevin27nyi 03-03-2013 07:37 PM

#27 for me, for Mike Peca who was my favorite player.

KRM 03-03-2013 07:38 PM

88

Born 1988 and have a german last name, would be funny seeing the reactions.

Oberyn 03-03-2013 07:39 PM

Gotta rep that #39

Mister Hockey 03-03-2013 07:39 PM

My 12 year old asked me what number I wore when I played.

I told him I used to wear 29 from when I was 5 to 12 when I played goal. After that it was 10 when I was D-Man until my late 30's.

I didn't think of it until he asked me this. I have two boys and they were born on the 10th and the 29th. Pretty amazy, I wonder what the odds are at that.

The Four Seven 03-03-2013 07:39 PM

I named myself after the number: 47. The number's always had a certain appeal to me, and you don't see it terribly often in the NHL.
