What is the Curse Panther puts on the traded Players?

Why all(most) Panthers ex players allways go badly in other teams? Or goes to other country, or AHL, o never plays on his current NHL team!

- Boot
- Samuelsson
- Madden
- Vokoun
- Dadonov
- Sturm
- McCabe, the captain
- McArdle
- a lot more

Not the case:

- Garisson
- Frolik
- Seidenberg
- ?

Panthers607 03-04-2013 12:16 PM

They're not good enough for other teams...?

No but really, most of those players you mentioned are old and naturally getting slower/worse eg. Madden, Sturm, McCabe, Samuelsson etc so that shouldn't come as a surprise.

Booth has been all right in Van, and so has Garrison (obviously not like last year's iron man performance but still)

McArdle and Dadonov weren't good to begin with.

Speaking of Seids, wish we could've kept him, he's awesome.

EDIT: It's not like Frolik has gone beast mode in CHI either.
Random thread dude.

freakstar 03-04-2013 12:17 PM

You forgot Horton, he's been playing pretty well since getting traded. Higgins too.

freakstar 03-04-2013 12:18 PM

And John Madden retired, not sure why he's on the "bad" list.

Blad Meaning Gud 03-04-2013 12:31 PM

Huselius, Hagman, Luongo, Dan Boyle, Grabner, Prospal.. All good player when they left.

RogerBR 03-04-2013 12:41 PM

Didn´t know Madden was retired. I tryed to find informations about him, because I liked to watch him playing last year, but couldnt find any!

Coolburn 03-04-2013 12:47 PM

Include Leopold among the list of players that are still playing and doing well (though he's injured right now but has had a few solid seasons since we traded him).

Craig Anderson has established himself as a solid starting goaltender after we let him go in free agency (talk about a bonehead move).

Matt Cullen has been very solid for several yrs since we traded him as well (both in Carolina & now in Minnesota)

Tanner Glass established himself as a 4th liner for several teams since leaving the org (Vancouver, Winnipeg, & now Pittsburgh)

Rhett Warrener played 9 yrs in the NHL after we got rid of him and he was always a solid d-man for the Sabres IIRC (and then the Flames)

And the "Pièce de résistance" is Ray Whitney who has been just as good if not better since we let him go. That guy is still playing at what 40 yrs old?

Panteras 03-04-2013 12:49 PM

Vokoun was the same here so.....simply one of the most overrated players ever

On the PK he is a beast

Frolik is #1 amongst Hawk forwards in PK time (2:53 SH TOI a game) for #3 unit in NHL

8th in NHL amongst forwards in SH TOI = 63:34 SH TOI

Offensively he has fallen off planet but defensively he plays strong 5 on 5 and is becoming a PK ace

Mogo 03-04-2013 01:49 PM

WTF?? Usually players blossom when there traded from Panthers. Your just listing last couple years there. I'll be kind as you're clearly a noobie. We actually bought out Martin Straka and he then went onto Penguins and the rest is history. Other players blossoming Anderson, Huselius, Luongo, Boyle, Grabner etc etc

As for your list

- Samuelsson - He wasn't here that long his career was before us
- Madden - Retired
- Vokoun - Always has been so overrated
- Dadonov - Never proven
- Sturm - So bad he can't break the Panthers lineup
- McCabe, the captain - Retired
- McArdle - Never an NHLer
- a lot more

RogerBR 03-04-2013 02:25 PM

Yes, surelly I am a noobie... I follow Panthers since 2009, when I watched a live game, at Bank Atl center. As I am brazilian, i watch online games.. and this is my impression since then... But nice to know this much informations about the players... But Vokoun overrated? Just check his records dude...

Benched 03-04-2013 02:39 PM

Luongo has been a Vezina finalist twice and a Hart finalist once since being traded.

Weird thread.

I dont think Vokoun is overated. I think his career reflects that of a top 10 goalie. Certainly not elite tho.

Remember this? :sarcasm: I think a combination of this goal and Ballard's swinging away on Vokoun's head was the beginning of the end for this once respectable netminder.

batting1k 03-04-2013 03:03 PM

And look at Craig Anderson...he's the best goalie in the NHL right now, despite being injured.

I'll put in my take too.

- Booth - never recovered fully from the concussion Mike Richards gave him with the blindside head-hit.

- Samuelsson - played for the Panthers twice - the first time he left and excelled with Detroit. Second time he simply wasn't that great for the Panthers and I guess lost his mojo.

- Vokoun - always suffered from slow starts. Needs a team effort to make him look good, though he has his moments.

- Dadonov - are you kidding? What did he ever do? He never developed an offensive game, nothing to do with Panthers.

- McArdle - also never developed well enough to be an NHL regular

Not the case:

- Garisson
- Frolik
- Seidenberg
- Jovanovski
- Rob Niedermeyer (became an excellent defensive forward for the Ducks)

Others mentioned some other players that excelled after us. But don't forget Jason Woolley and Rhett Warrener, Jaro Spacek...I'm sure there's some others as well.

Laus723 03-04-2013 04:13 PM

Lmao, some thread.

harv3317 03-04-2013 06:15 PM

Vokoun, top 10 Goalie????????:shakehead:shakehead

vokoun has always been overrated, especially in his own mind!!!!!:D:D

He is trying it now in Cologne, Germany for the Sharks.

He hasnt done anything so far since being acquired Mid February.. Although he was injured for a few games already.:shakehead

I will keep a close look at him..
Cologne is a team that is contender for this years championship.

Despite what the statistics say Booth has been very solid this year love the way he drives to the net, just been very unlucky. Garrison has been a rock for us since the quarter mark of the season. I think you forgot Ballard in the OP though, he's been good recently but we defs overpaid for him.

That's contrary to many or your posters who are desperately trying to trade booth and Ballard. When things are goin bad as they are to u guys the opinions will vary.

Feel sorry booth has failed, we loved him here.

In fact, both were decent here and are decent now. No significant drop off or addition.

This is a bit ridiculous of a thread. You win some, you lose some. Moving some players/letting them go at the right time will get you good value or at least equivalent value, and moving them at the wrong time will get you bad value. I think we've seen an equilibrium settle over a long period of time, just like every other NHL team.
