Scored 41 goals in the WHL with the Blades this season, originally drafted by Toronto. The Rangers probably saw him scouting McColgan

The 41 goals was from this season.

Good pickup. Was surprised he didn't get a contract from the Leafs.

blasted_Sabre 03-04-2013 04:20 PM

Good luck to him. Just didnt fit with our organization for some reason.

Here is some scouting by leafs fans. I guess this is a Wolfwhale signing?

Trxjw 03-04-2013 04:24 PM

Definitely a project. He has a good frame, but he was still pretty lanky from what I remember earlier this year in the couple of Blades games I watched. Still, he fits the mold of a Rangers player. Skates well, good defensively, works his tail off on and off the ice, but isn't overly skilled.

Could be a solid energy line player who can kill penalties if everything works out.

Tawnos 03-04-2013 04:25 PM

I would be pretty surprised if this was a signing for the big club.

Bluenote13 03-04-2013 04:26 PM

Played with our other Saskatoon Blade reps Niemi, Klassen and McNaught.

A few people mentioned that his skating ability isn't all that good in that thread from the Leafs board.

Cmox 03-04-2013 04:26 PM

Does he report to CT? or does he have to stay where he is?

twistedwrister17 03-04-2013 04:30 PM

Sure what the hell.

That's quite the group.

49th contract.

CaliDubiZib 03-04-2013 04:45 PM

Anyone know if he plays on a line with McColgan?

Nicholls contract with NYR is standard three-year entry level deal, listed with annual cap hit of $925K. Gets SB of $92.5K in each of 3 yrs.

SPC begins 2013-14. Nicholls can sign an AHL deal to play in the AHL when his junior year is over. Teams are allowed to sign players after March 1 to have the SPC begin the following season.

He was 20 already in September so he counts towards the 50 contract limit regardless. I don't believe he can go to the AHL until after his junior season is over, though.

Good to know.

I suppose he'll sign a ATO with Connecticut after Saskatoon's season is done.
