Jonas hiller to carolina

i figure you guys will be in the market for a goalie with Ward going down.

Exit Dose 03-04-2013 04:48 PM

Did Ward die or something? They aren't in the market for a starting goalie.

rip.

Cardiac_Canes 03-04-2013 04:57 PM

Great thread. You offer no real justification for the canes making the move and you don't include a proposal or even what the ducks might be looking for.

If Carolina does add a goalie, it'll likely be for the ahl or someone along the lines of a Ben Bishop. It won't be a clear-cut #1. They won't give up the assets required to acquire someone of that calibre when Ward will be back in 2 months tops. What do they do then? Spend 10 mil+ on their goalie tandem?

Flukeshot 03-04-2013 05:04 PM

2 months is a significant time. It's the rest of the regular season. Maybe Hiller is available a little cheaper right now with Fasth as the potential future starter.

Finlandia WOAT 03-04-2013 05:04 PM

Hiller for Jussi Jokinen, McBain and a 3rd or GTFO.

Also, we're probably not going to trade for a goaltender. More likely, a defenseman.

AmericanRocket91 03-04-2013 05:07 PM

That'd be such an FU to Dan Ellis..Hiller won't be moved until at least this summer. Having two starting goalies like Hiller and Viktor is a luxury and we need to keep the tandem together for a run at the playoffs.

The organization? Guy had to fight for an NHL job. played well enough to earn the backup spot and has played great in that role, probably the best backup we've had since Gerber/Ward

Ellis isn't very good.

Yes, but then, Ward's goaltending hasn't exactly been winning us games outright either.

Ellis doesn't have to be good, he just doesn't have to **** up until one of the two Staal's gets back on the ice.

He's their Schultz. Show a little class.

Can't see Carolina doing this. Hiller's contract is 1 year too long. I can't really see the Ducks doing this either. Fasth will have to play a little longer first. The Ducks are much better off keeping Hiller around until the trade deadline in 2014. By then they will know if Fasth is the real deal.

If Carolina adds a goalie, it'll be a backup they can move to the NHL or someone on an expiring contract. Hiller at 4.5 is way too much for a band-aid.

rajinikanthfan1 03-04-2013 05:44 PM

they should get someone like auld to backup ellis here are the other options

clemenson
elliot
mason
alex auld realisitcly

He's a fine backup, he was awful in Tampa and for some reason his reputation from there is still with him. Other than that he's had a solid career as a backup and even had a decent year as a starter. He and Emery took the Ducks to the playoffs when Hiller went down a couple of years ago, and he's been pretty good so far this season.

Teams don't bring in established #1 goalies like Hiller when their #1 is injured, especially not when Hiller has another year remaining on the contract. If anything, they'll probably just end up trading for someone who can share some of the workload with Ellis, or just some good AHL goalie with NHL experience for depth insurance.

Sojourn 03-04-2013 05:46 PM

Hiller isn't available.

Everyone is available. The Great One was traded so anyone can be traded.

ronnyweed 03-04-2013 06:09 PM

there is literally zero goal-tending market this year.

and nobody is giving up assets for a short term solution - the trade deadline could change things but as of now, don't hold your breath

Let me rephrase that then: Hiller is not available right now, and so, Hiller is not available.

Well if Carolina is willing to crazy overpay then you have to listen to the offer.

Carolina isn't going to "crazy overpay" for a goalie. Ward is still their guy.

the canes dont want hiller.

theyve already said theyll be riding it out with what they have, and if anything will look to add ahl depth to help charlotte with the loss of peters.

DuckTech 03-04-2013 06:44 PM

Maybe we can work a deal for JDD?
