Liles + to Edmonton

Seeing as the leafs have a bunch of defencemen (not saying all of them are worthy), what do you think it takes to get him gone? I'm assuming Toronto will have to retain some sort of salary? I'd thinking with Brown being worth a 4th, Liles might be worth a 2nd? Does throwing in a player like Ashton scoop us a 2nd rounder?

Just thinking.

Pinto 03-05-2013 10:38 AM

Why would we be retaining salary? Liles at his cap hip is perfectly acceptable, he just needs to play. It's criminal that Kostka is still in the line-up ahead of him.

ScottyFreakinUpshall 03-05-2013 10:43 AM

I don't believe his cap hit is that bad either, I'm just throwing out ideas. Kostka shouldn't be there anymore, and if so, bottom pairing...IMO.

joestevens29 03-05-2013 10:47 AM

Hard to say his cap hit isn't bad when he's making 4+ as a healthy scratch and signed for 3 more years.

MakeTheIronSing 03-05-2013 10:48 AM

2nd rounder and an average prospect

He is making under 4m.

The Oilers don't need another bottom pairing D with a long term contract, pass. The Oilers have 8D and have a couple of A prospects D banging at the door, defense is not the problem, if anything they need to trade a D themselves.

ScottyFreakinUpshall 03-05-2013 10:50 AM

I believe he can be worth every penny on the Oilers, He'd be nice on their Powerplay. I won't be surprised to see him in the lineup soon so they can start shopping him.

Their D is a combined -30.... I don't think Liles would be a bottom pairing there.

Liles for Whitney + 2nd

The problem with the Oilers is scoring at EV, that is why their D is a -30. Look at JVR and all his points and he is a 0+/-, your reasoning is flawed and clearly don't have a clue what your talking about.

MakeTheIronSing 03-05-2013 10:57 AM

Liles is hardly a 3rd line d man, at the beginning of this year, he was TOs best puck moving d, but Holzer Fraser and Kostka have been reliable and Franson has been great on the PP, so Liles is a victim of numbers above all else

2nd and an average prospect

zeus3007* 03-05-2013 10:59 AM

I don't see anything wrong with Liles, and he should be playing, but he doesn't really bring the skills that the Oilers need. Plus, we'd need to move out Whitney or Potter if we were bringing in another puck mover, so there's that to consider as well.

Just an opinion... I don't think hes a bottom pairing... Sorry. I understand what you are saying though and agree.

Boom.

Ps.

I don't think Holzer should be up at this point, send him back (i believe he doesnt go through waivers?) and bring gards up.

MakeTheIronSing 03-05-2013 11:01 AM

Or Liles + for Paajarvi

WeridAl 03-05-2013 11:02 AM

Liles may help a team on the PP, but the Oilers have the 6th best PP in the league and don't really need the help.

Its hard to help a teams powerplay while your sitting in the press box, no?

Seems odd that if he was that good that the Leafs would use him to boost their PP, no?

Leafs haven't needed their PP to win games. They are doing just fine with the 17th ranked PP.

Really? So Liles is going to push Justin Schultz down to the 3rd pairing? He'd be bottom pairing on the Oilers.

jfisher6 03-05-2013 02:28 PM

Liles to Colorado for Ryan O'Byrne and a 3rd?
