Hammer placed on waivers, claimed by NYR

wapo reporting hammer places on waivers. doubt he will get picked up, but that cap space would be nice.

motorace 03-05-2013 11:42 AM

actually, per capgeek, caps have more cap space then i previously thought. tough way for hamrlik to go out though

AlexBrovechkin8 03-05-2013 11:56 AM

We can't trade him for anything? Bag of pucks? 6-pack of gatorade?

He probably would have returned an asset, however minor, at the deadline. My guess is he asked out, so George waived him to give him a shot.

Roughing 03-05-2013 12:00 PM

Here's hoping 55 is next...

motorace 03-05-2013 12:07 PM

ii'm sure GMGM shopped him around before this...

Timing is everything.

BiPolar Caps 03-05-2013 12:12 PM

Hammer, don't ever take sides against the union.

CapitalsCupFantasy 03-05-2013 12:17 PM

See what happens when you mess with Troy Brouwer, Leader of Men?

Ridley Simon 03-05-2013 12:26 PM

Somewhere, a small part of Swimmer77 just died today.

Atlas 03-05-2013 12:28 PM

The dreaded double post.

marcel snapshot 03-05-2013 12:31 PM

So long Hamr - thanks for stepping it up in the playoffs last year. I'm somewhat puzzled why you were unable to play that way during the regular season, however.

Carlzner 03-05-2013 12:32 PM

Meh. Thought he deserved to play over 3 and 55.

Winner. Still laughing. Most people probably won't get it but your genius is not lost with me, my friend.

Atlas 03-05-2013 12:34 PM

It's fairly typical now for the Caps to part ways with good players on bad terms. Hamrlik, Nylander, Vokoun, Semin, Bondra (who deserved it), Jagr, CalleJo. I expect Ovie will be next.

InjuredChoker 03-05-2013 12:52 PM

Some team wouldn't even take a 7th for him?

Mogo 03-05-2013 12:57 PM

If he's on the last year of his contract i'm sure Panthers will pick him up

You forgot to mention Kolzig...

Anyhow Hamrlik is still a decent player but he is redundant on this team as we have plenty of soft "puck moving dmen" already on the roster.

On the right team he can be an excellent find.

Mystlyfe 03-05-2013 01:01 PM

He's being waived to clear a roster spot for Oleksy. Awful management by McPhee here. If Trent Hunter can return a 4th and healthy scratch Gagne can return a conditional 4th, then Hamrlik could have returned something. Not to mention with the struggles of both our bottom pairing and of Carlson, how Hamrlik wasn't able to get another shot at playing is beyond me. It's not as if 55 and 3 were tearing it up out there. Especially given that, despite the improved play of Erskine, the 4-74 pairing hasn't exactly shut the other team down, the fact they didn't try the old Hamrlik as a vet mentor for the struggling kid routine is dumbfounding.

And it's not like we need the cap space, either. Even if we were trying to acquire salary at the deadline, there's plenty of space. And he's an expiring contract, so it doesn't buy room for next year.

Dumb.

With Weiss going down I see no reason for them to do this. May as well just play young players and engage in tank mode really.

They have some vets they can sell off for some tidy profit at the deadline.

SephF 03-05-2013 01:10 PM

Is he really that bad this year? I wouldn't mind the Oilers claiming him for their bottom pairing.

Green was put on IR to clear a spot for Oleksy. This move is independent.

Johansson was cleared for contact. He's going to come off of IR soon.

He's burned too many bridges within the organization it seems.
