I know this has been speculated on by some Rangers fans on their board, but this is the first time a reliable hockey media guy has speculated on it.

If Spezza was healthy, I'd say Ottawa makes a run at him to pair with Spez on the 1st line.

Or to Colorado - maybe a basis of a Stastney+ for Gaborik+ type deal.

Safe to assume that it won't be an Eastern team. I'd say Vancouver.

Sens are the kind of team who could use his goal-scoring and likely package up the depth players New York would be interested in and still have the prospect depth to replace them. Nashville is another, I think. The trick would be in convincing Gaborik to waive his NTC to join them.

No interest at all. No chance we'd be able to pay Gaborik 7.5 million next year without gutting any sort of depth we have. Vancouver would be the last team interested in Gaborik.

Nashville really needs a scorer.

He's not going anywhere. We're trying to win a cup. There's no trade, no matter how many stupid proposals people want to come up with, that makes sense AND improves the Rangers right now.

If we can unload Booth, I think we would be all over it.

Honestly the only star that I'd really be eager to trade is Richards. He has been flatout awful this year.

I think NYR should try and slowly transition between Richards & Gaborik to another duo.
It would likely involve trading Gaborik and buying out Richards who has a full NMC.

That's idiotic. First they trade away their depth for Nash (what the quote in the OP said), and not half a season later they think they need to trade another scorer (basically a better version of Nash imo) for depth? I doubt it.

If the Sens go for Gaborik I suspect Smith would be going back. He's the kind of guy who NY would value more than many other teams.

Perry + 3rd for Gaborik + 1 million dollars withheld by NYR.

Technically speaking, Philadelphia and Tampa Bay did this with the four first-rounders from the Chris Gratton signing.

NYR could use a gritty 2nd line centre.

Yeah Nashville needs to be all over this.

Problem is Nashville's biggest trade chips are defensemen, which NYR are fine at. Nashville does have some forward depth to spare though.

edit: just realized Gaborik only has 1 year left on his contract. Makes Nashville less interested.

Perry for Gaborik straight up I'd do.

I don't want any salary games considering the strong potential of Perry jetting and the concentration of the NYR top players share of salary.

I imagine he'd cost quite and he has one more year on his contract. Don't know if I'd want that.

Mike Fisher and some high picks\prospects interest you?

Fisher just extended for a few more years at 4.2, so you'll save some cash. He's been a good player for us, but he's playing above his role at the moment. I think placed back into a 2\3 role with some PP and PK time, he'd get back to the 20g/25a mark while bring leadership and grit.

The thought makes me cringe in fear.

Gaborik would magical with the Sedins. Gaborik's game is all positioning and getting in lanes. Richards and Gaborik aren't great together bc neither thrive by puck possession. Playing with the Sedins would allow them to set up the play and Gaborik to finish it.
