Final Roster & Line Predictions

Impossible but fun:

1a.1 Roloson
1a.2 Fernandez
callup: Holmqvist

1&2: Kuba, Mitchell
3&4: Schultz, Zyuzin
5&6: Bombardir, Brown
spare: Marshall (hoping for Roche)
callups: Roche-Michalek

1) Stevenson-Walz-Gaborik
-i'm guessing Walz is back to the checking line, but I would kill to see the explosiveness the 2 had against Van for the full season. Could Wanvig fill Stevenson's role?

2) Dupuis-Bouchard-Foy
-Would this line be a defensive liability w/ Foy or possibly Daigle at rw? If so, Park, Veilleux?

3) Laaksonen-Zholtok-Muckalt
-Hopefully they can play the way they did early last season with Zholtok filling Wes' role.

4) Brunette-Wallin-Park

Spares: Johnson, Chouinard. I think somebody goes on ir and Burns is on for 10 games.

*Dupuis replacement: Brandner or Veilleux Gaborik replacement: Daigle

Callups: Veilleux-Cavanaugh-Wanvig, Brandner

5&6: Bombardir, Roche

callups: Michalek

Start season:
1) Stevenson-Walz-Muckalt

2) Laaksonen-Zholtok-Bouchard

3) Wanvig-Wallin-Veilleux

4) Brunette-Chouinard-Park

Spares: Johnson, Burns stays for 10.

I'd rather see Burns go back to junior than sit in the press box. The guy has only played forward for 1 year, and could use some playing time.

I should add that Darby, Park, Muckalt, have all proven their abilities at the NHL level. They do not need to prove themselves in the preseason. A rookis has to above and beyond their level of play to knock them off. However Brander, Foy, Wallin are all breathing down their necks. An injury or some sloppy play and those 3 are gone.

What bothers me a little bit is that Jacques has a history of having a hard time letting sub-par vets go. That's why he quit in Jersey, the team had peaked out, and it was time to bring in the kids. Which, in turn, meant that some of the veterans, who were loyal to Jacques and the team, had to go. He couldn't do it, he chose to quit himself. Those are actually his words, I read it in one of his interviews. I've seen enough of Foy, Brandner, Michalek, to think that they are probably ready for the big show. But would Lemaire have the nerve to say "Merci, au revoir" to the likes of Darby, Marshall, Dowd, Bomber this time around? :dunno:

MN_Gopher 09-24-2003 03:40 PM

If Lemaire wins a cup, then sets up our team to win a few more. i will live with the vets.

I agree I dont know if he has the nerve to cut some vets. Dowd has played pretty well so far. He has 2 goals. Hey its good that its making it tough on Jacque and Doug R it means weve got depth!

ceber 09-24-2003 04:30 PM

I'll take a stab (gave myself a bit of an advantage by waiting for the latest round of cuts.. yeah, I'm a wimp. ;))

Forwards

Andrew Brunette
Matt Johnson
Antti Laaksonen
Pierre-Marc Bouchard
Marc Chouinard

Rickard Wallin
Wes Walz

Richard Park
Jeremy Stevenson

Defensemen
Brad Bombardir
Brad Brown

I'm confident that is quite wrong. The next two games should be pretty revealing.

I read that interview as well, and I think you've hit the nail on the head. How do you cut a guy whose done everything you've asked and more? This loyalty/team ethic is one of the core qualities that make the Wild what they are. Jacques will have some VERY tough decisions to make.

Koltsov71 09-25-2003 05:48 PM

Looks like most of you don't think Daigle is making the team.
