Vancouver Canucks- Columbus Blue Jackets

To:
:cbj
One of Rodin/Labate/Grenier
2013 2nd
2013 7th
To:
:nucks
Derrick Brassard

I think it's a fair deal. Opinions/criticisms?

I would guess that it would cost your 1st rounder at the minimum, or a Luongo swap

It wouldn't. I like Brassard and don't think Columbus should trade him, but if they did they wouldn't get much more than a pick in the 25-45 range and a prospect.

I would like Brassard + Mason for Luongo though but that would never happen.

Probably fair. Greiner is playing in Europe? What's his story?

FWIW my interest in those forwards is probably in reverse order of how they're listed in OP.

He's in the ECHL. You'd want Rodin, he's a solid prospect.

Meh. Probably familiarity breeding contempt with Rodin. Already known him and have concerns he'll maximize his skill, so was looking elsewhere. Maybe need to revisit the list of offered prospects.

You can take look at our prospect pool.

Jensen/Schroeder/Gaunce/Corrado are not being traded.

If anything it's going to be Brassard for a low 1st. I could see the max offer for him to be 1st + midlevel prospect.

Yeah obvious choice would be Jensen. Whatevs.

Probably a deal that could be done. Dunno what it might end up looking like. Point is, there might just be a few teams that are interested in Brass and I would think a deal could get done.

We can do better than that.

Our pick will likely be lower then that, but our prospects are likely higher in our pool then competing offers (not that it means their better...but we're willing to hurt a little more).

Lu for Brass+Mason won't happen simply because we're not clearing salary and only filling one roster spot, and while a potential top six center (here, and likely with Kesler healthy) and what would amount to a back up goalie on our roster are still important to Columbus, they don't hold the same value to us.

Grenier is my favorite of the three, but Labate should do pretty well as well. Neither would be outstanding, but could end up doing spot duty in the top half of the roster if everything lines up. More likely we're looking at adding some talent to our bottom six if they stay on course.

Rodin is far and away the most skilled of the three, but as someone said, he may not maximize his skill. Higher risk, but I'd say a higher reward.

Labate or Grenier would be the ones I would want, I am a fan of Rodin and I think there is still good upside but the other 2 are younger, they are more long term prospects, but Grenier brings skill, nice wheels and alot of size (6'5 200 pounds I believe), stylewise comparison to Blake Wheeler though he won't be that good, and Labate is a big strong skilled center, someone I like in our pool and still have hopes for as a 2nd or 3rd line center.

I would do a package like this for Brassard:

2nd
4th or 5th
Labate/Grenier
