Game Preview
Last 10: Colorado 4-3-3; Chicago 10-0-0.

Season series: This is the first of three meetings.

Big story: The Blackhawks continue to rewrite the history books with each passing game. They won a franchise record 10th straight and extended their point streak to 23 consecutive games to start the 2012-13 season with a 5-3 victory against the Minnesota Wild at the United Center.

"They've been, game in and game out, bringing it and the consistency our team game has been in place," Chicago coach Joel Quenneville said. "Finding ways to win each and every night, whether it's one line, whether its the whole group.

Somebody jumps up and contributes a little more. Nobody wants to let each down and keeps pushing each other in the right way."

Team scope:

Avalanche: Colorado enters Wednesday's action hoping to prevent a three-game skid. The Avs suffered their second straight loss Tuesday night, a 2-1 defeat against the Detroit Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena. Paul Stastny scored the lone goal for Colorado, which didn’t come until 18:30 of the third period as Wings goalie Jimmy Howard shined in a 36-save performance.

"He was incredible tonight," Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog said. "We played a good game. We did everything we could do except score."

Blackhawks: Devin Setoguchi gave Minnesota an early 1-0 lead Tuesday night, but the Blackhawks responded with four goals before the first period expired en route to a 5-3 victory. Bryan Bickell scored twice for Chicago, while Brandon Saad had a goal and two assists to keep this remarkable run going.

"It's definitely a great time right now," winger Marian Hossa said. “Everybody is enjoying coming to practice. We don't practice as much, but it's working so far. Everybody is hungry. We have a strong lineup and the guys are playing well."

Who’s hot: Stastny has two goals in the past three games for Colorado. … Patrick Kane is 2-1-3 in the past three for Chicago, while Bickell has three goals in the past three.

Injury report: Colorado is without defensemen Erik Johnson (head) and Ryan Wilson (ankle) as well as forward Steve Downie (knee), who is out for the remainder of the season.

I hope we never play on Wednesday night ever again as long as they're shoving this "Wednesday Night Rivalry" crap down our throats.

This is NBC. They can't even put a quality broadcast on NBC on a Sunday, their big day. You want them to actually coordinate with the NHL on getting actual rivalries for this schtick?

TorMenT 03-06-2013 07:13 PM

They should be able to get an actual rivalry or 2 every wednesday, it wouldn't be that hard.

Sevanston 03-06-2013 07:27 PM

If the Avalanche ever can come out of the gutter and realignment goes through, they're bound to eventually become a rival, even one that plays an exciting brand of hockey.

But too soon NBC, too soon.

Fish on The Sand 03-06-2013 07:27 PM

Is Emery the confirmed starter?

Yes ma'am.

HawksFan74 03-06-2013 07:31 PM

NBC is promoting their game, what's the big deal?

ChiGuySez 03-06-2013 07:37 PM

Just got back and BOOM there it is. Another monster GDT. Great job.

Blackhawks should be dropping another monster rating for the NBC.

Lets go Hawks!

Blackhawkswincup 03-06-2013 07:52 PM

NBC really trying to pretend this is a rivarly

96 and 97 it had potential ,, Since then the Avs only meaning to me as a Hawks fan was the team that I hated more then the Wings in late 90's/early 00's

ChiGuySez 03-06-2013 07:56 PM

Marketing gimmick. Who cares. Ride that Blackhawk train. NBC needs to promote the NHL. NHL needs monster TV ratings. Blackhawks are glad to assist.

No Fun Shogun 03-06-2013 07:58 PM

Both teams play hockey. Clearly a rivalry!

KyleJRM 03-06-2013 08:03 PM

Remember when we were all psyched to be going for 1/6th of the season?

Heck, remember when we were happy to have cilnched a .500 start to the 10 road games in 12?

theaub 03-06-2013 08:04 PM

No Hossa tonight
