After facing the same team for three straight games, the Anaheim Ducks should be eager for the chance to extend their home winning streak against a different opponent Friday night.

The Ducks look for a 10th straight victory at Honda Center while also trying to continue their home success against a Calgary Flames team seeking a season-high third consecutive win.

Anaheim (16-3-3) played Phoenix three times in five days, suffering back-to-back 5-4 shootout losses on the road before Jonas Hiller stopped 18 shots in a 2-0 home win Wednesday.

"We were mad that we gave up four goals the last two games and we know solid defense is going to win you more than just games," coach Bruce Boudreau told the Ducks' official website. "It's going to win division titles and championships."

Anaheim, 3-0-2 in its last five, is second in the NHL with 35 points but 10 behind red-hot Chicago.

"(The Blackhawks are) playing great and doing things the right way, but at the same time, we just worry about ourselves and keep pushing forward," said forward Ryan Getzlaf, who had an empty net goal and an assist Wednesday to raise his team-leading point total to 27.

This will be the first game for Getzlaf since he signed an eight-year, $66 million contract. The Anaheim captain would have been an unrestricted free agent this summer.

"This is a wonderful day for my family, as Anaheim has become our home," Getzlaf said. "The fans here have treated me very well, and I look forward to being part of a winning hockey team ... for years to come."

The Ducks are focused on trying to extend their longest home winning streak since an 11-game run in 2009-10. Anaheim has outscored opponents 32-16 in winning nine in a row since a 5-0 home-opening loss to Vancouver.

It's won 14 straight regular season and postseason games at home versus Calgary (9-8-4) since the 2006 playoffs. The last eight such meetings have been decided by one goal, including two in overtime and three in a shootout.

With five goals and nine assists during an eight-game home point streak, Getzlaf has five goals and 11 assists while recording a point in 10 straight against the Flames at home. He scored twice Jan. 21 to help Anaheim hold on for a 5-4 win over Calgary despite blowing an early 3-0 lead.

Overshadowed by rookie Viktor Fasth's 9-1-1 record and 2.08 goals-against average, Hiller has won five straight at home and is 4-0-1 with a 2.14 GAA since missing time with a lower-body injury. He is 4-0-0 with a 2.40 GAA at home against the Flames.

Calgary is in the midst of a 4-1-1 stretch but both defeats came on the road, where it's dropped a season-high three in row. The Flames have won two straight going into a three-game California trip that includes back-to-back contests at Los Angeles.

Miikka Kiprusoff made 32 saves in his first action since missing a month with a sprained MCL as Calgary beat San Jose 4-1 on Wednesday. Jarome Iginla had a goal and an assist for the Flames.

"I felt that (Kiprusoff) was solid right from the get-go," coach Bob Hartley said. "He was seeing all the pucks and that's such a good feeling for guys on the bench, for coaches, and probably for fans."

Hartley plans to start Kiprusoff, who has a 3.27 GAA during a nine-game regular season and playoff road skid against the Ducks.

Iginla has scored six of his seven goals in five games, including four in the last three. He has a point in six straight at Anaheim, and seven goals and 10 assists in his last 13 overall in the series.

Getzlaf will be hammered for this one after inking that new deal. Flames take it in what I think will be high scoring, 5-4.

Also, has anyone taken the McGrattan avi yet? I ****in love that guy. Would trade him Butler for Grats :sarcasm:

One more thing, might as well post it in the most recent thread.

I just changed my username from artysmith to goodsauce. Not that anyone knew me before/after anyways haha.

Anyways, Go Flames Go!

TheHudlinator 03-08-2013 02:31 PM

Dammit Stewie I was like halfway through making one

Anyways nice job, I will have to save mine for another time.

Sounds like Sven is out as he is banged up from last game.

Doesn't hurt to have the 4th line that we will against the Ducks. Too bad Parros wasn't still in the West.

Kiprusoff vs. Fasth in net as the #Flames look to snap a 15 game losing skid in Anaheim. 8:30 start on @Sportsnet960 and @Sportsnet Flames.

Looks like Baertschi out and Begin in tonight for #Flames

EDIT: Oh okay, Sven is just banged up. My bad.

Nordberg 03-08-2013 02:53 PM

Ducks lineup is very questionable on paper. Boudreau is really squeezing every last drop out of his guys. I don't care about their record, we can't lose to this team if we have any ambitions this season.

It feels like he's always "banged up." I hope we don't have prospect made of glass in Baertschi.

Should be an exciting game tonight. (Most games against Anaheim are).
4-3 Flames (regulation). When was the last time we won a game in Anaheim?

Hurray, we have our very own Hemsky. :sarcasm:

We're going to lose. I haven't been in town since I've been doing my tours outside of Calgary so I haven't watched a single game during this winning streak.

But since I'm home and available to watch the game, they'll lose. I swear that nearly every time I've watched a game this season, the Flames have lost.

Sorry.

Flames92 03-08-2013 03:07 PM

Looks like Sven might be on his way down to the AHL. Hartley expected to have a chat with Sven this afternoon about "why he is going to be a great NHL player".

F l a m e s 03-08-2013 03:12 PM

We haven't won a game in the Honda Centre since 2004! That's almost 10 years! ..... Tonight feels like a good night to break that streak.

Go Flames Go!!

Good, it's about time he was sent down. Backlund must be close to returning then.

Skobel24 03-08-2013 03:17 PM

Not sure who takes this one... I'll say 3-1 Flames.

InfinityIggy 03-08-2013 03:38 PM

Yeah sadly, im going to agree that Bart should go down, he has ALL the skills he needs. His physical development just is not there yet.

Guys?

The big unanswered question is this:

Duck season or wabbit season?

InfinityIggy 03-08-2013 04:27 PM

Did someone say...duck?

DBU 03-08-2013 05:07 PM

Duck?
