Okay, before Leafs fans get in a tizzy at the mere idea of trading Gardiner, I'm not saying we should trade him, I just want to see what the perception of other fan-bases is with regards to his value. After Kadri and Rielly he's probably our top asset as a young, cheap, puck-moving defenceman. I mean if a guy like Goligoski can get James Neal, I wonder what kind of young forward Gardiner could bring back in return.

Is there any team with a young center prospect that would trade him straight up for Gardiner? If your team had a high enough pick in this draft to take a guy like Sean Monahan, would you trade it for Gardiner?

Sojourn 03-08-2013 07:42 PM

I wouldn't. Gardiner needs to continue to show what he's made of at the NHL level.

Pi 03-08-2013 07:43 PM

There is nothing to get in a tizzy for.

I'd gladly trade him ++ for a #1C, but I wouldn't trade him for players that aren't even drafted yet and likely 2-3 years away from making an impact.

He should be in the NHL but Dallas Eakins is a fantastic coach and more AHL time never hurt Kadri.

An elite PMD is his potential and he's proven that so many times last year and this year in the AHL that he'll reach it.

He plays upwards of 25 mins down there.

He's made NHL defenses look like AHL'ers with his moves.

One of the best skaters...he just knows when to capitalize against other teams, it's something nobody on the Leafs has right now.

Yeah, this isn't colored at all.

We get it, you don't like Gardiner. Stop running around with an agenda.

What are the odds you're a ducks fan?

Actually, I do like Gardiner. I like him a lot. The thing is, the description Pi was giving me was more along the lines of Gardiner's top end potential. It isn't a realistic assessment of where he is now, or where he is likely to fall in his NHL career.

About 1 in 1.

How's Holland coming along by the way? Supposed to be better than Kadri and all, I'd figure he's tearing up the league right now.

Stellar D, Offensively he is on pace for right around the same point totals he put up last year

stavs 03-08-2013 09:59 PM

He'll be the Leafs #1/#2 and in a couple years with the likes of Rielly. Doubt he goes anywhere unless its an offer thats too good to pass on. Phaneuf will probably be traded down the road.

Leaf fans do you think Rielly will be the better player?

I think Rielly has what it takes to be a star Dman. Whether he becomes one is to be seen, but he definitely has the potential. Our best prospect within the last couple decades

Fearless Leaf* 03-08-2013 11:04 PM

Darren Dreger reported couple of days ago, Gardiner is valued pretty high to our management, that it would take a blockbuster type of deal to get him out of Toronto.

I can't imagine him being traded at this moment unless it's a can't miss offer.

Yes, I believe he will because I think Rielly can be a dynamic #1 d-man that we have been searching for a long time and Gardiner is more like top-pairing d-man in the mold of becoming a good #2 if he puts it together.

The main thing in my opinion that separates Rielly from Gardiner is Rielly has elite level hockey IQ, Rielly can think the game at a very high level.

Both are going to be stud.

More accurate then your opinion sense we see him play. Look I know as a ducks fan it must suck knowing that Gardiner was stolen from your team, then Shultz bolted for the Oilers, but just because your team lost it's 2 best young d men don't that cloud your judgement.

Gardiner ain't worth half of one of my 2 chainz

seanlinden 03-08-2013 11:43 PM

Realistically, he's just not available.

The Leafs saw what he could do last year, and aren't going to give up on him because they've got 9 healthy dmen and are playing well.

The only deal he'd be made available in, is in a larger package for a bonafide star player... however, if the Leafs continue to win, the list of players that the Leafs would include Gardiner for gets shorter. From a practical standpoint, I don't think there's any wingers on that.

I'd trade him for the pick to get Mackinnon
