You Can't Do That on Television

Does anyone remember watching this show as a kid?

The firing squad... Barfs Burgers... The slime...

tony d 03-09-2013 09:00 PM

I remember watching it as well. Such a funny show. Here's a couple more videos:

The show that launched Alanis Morissette's career. :sarcasm:

And yes I do remember watching that show as a kid!

Spawn 03-09-2013 09:05 PM

Was that Alanis Morissette in the first video? Never heard of the show. Before my time.

Concordski 03-09-2013 09:16 PM

I don't know...

WhipNash27 03-09-2013 09:32 PM

I was born in 1985, so it was on the air for a few years after I was born. I probably remember watching the last couple of years of it. The only thing I really remember about it though was "I don't know" followed by slime.

Ozz 03-09-2013 09:47 PM

I remember watching it and a few skits, but nothing specific. Barth, Alaister in the dungeon, the slime of course... I should dig up some episodes or clips and see how many "oh yeah!" moments I have.

Why can't Nick bring back these shows? Their early lineups were pretty solid with You Can't Do That and Danger Mouse.

Did Adam always look like Danny Briere?

grew up with a crush on Christine McGlade

Man, I'd forgotten half this stuff...except for "water" *SPLASH* ugh....uh....and, uh...I don't know what else *SPLAT*:sarcasm: Completely forgot about Barth.

Yeah, Nick had some great kids shows...really wish they'd bring DM back, always loved Penfold. Also remember watching Turkey Television, and there was some fake news show starring Dave Coulier that I don't recall the name of.

Out Of Control. I remember the "cut-it-out" phrase and gesture

kingsholygrail 03-10-2013 05:03 AM

How could you forget about Barth? He was the best part of the show.

I thought Double Dare was cool as hell when I was a kid. Contestants used to win "rad" stuff like Nintendo games and boom boxes etc. I wanted to be on that show so badly and win stuff.

Ironically the host had an OCD for neatness. Funny as hell.

Pete and Pete = GOAT

blue425 03-10-2013 11:19 AM

YCDTOT was on at 7, Danger Mouse ay 7:30. Good times.

Peter Griffin 03-10-2013 11:25 AM

Yes me and my siblings loved that show. Who here remembers Today's Special and Putnam's Prairie Emporium?

I remember Today's Special, as well as our Canadian knockoff of Sesame Street, featuring Basil and Louis. :D

PolishBingo 03-11-2013 09:08 PM

I don't know.

Uncle Rotter 03-12-2013 01:47 PM

I remember when it was called Whatever Turns You On

Beats By CoRD 03-12-2013 02:10 PM

Wow I forgot about that show. I was sooo young. I only remember the Barth guy and the slime. Had no idea what was going on tho.

White Plains Batman 03-12-2013 07:53 PM

One of the best early/mid 80s shows out there. Some of that stuff like the Firing Squad and Barf's Burgers they wouldn't get away with today.

Les Lye was awesome. The theme song was great, it just gave the whole "nothing good is about to come of this next half an hour" :yo:

Remember when the Soviets invaded and the Slime was red? Or when they time traveled back to the Stone Ages?

That cast had great chemistry whether it was Christine, Doug, Alasdair, Lisa, etc.

Me either. I forgot about him also but was just messing with you.

I was watching Kids In the Hall not long ago and asked my wife if she watched it back in the day. Then we talked about similar shows like "The State" and I remembered about YCDTOT.

Haven't thought of this show in many years until then. I still laugh when I see the hair and clothes from the 80s.

The clothes choices were Bugle Boy, Polo and Jordache and guys thought having perms were cool. I thought I was just about the **** when I rocked my grey Bugle Boys with my $200 Jordans.
