Florida Selling (Versteeg Available)

Quote:

The 'For Sale' sign has been hung outside the BB&T Center.

Two league executives told QMI Agency that Florida Panthers general manager Dale Tallon is willing to listen to all offers because his club is virtually eliminated from the playoff race with only three weeks left to the April 3 trade deadline.

Six points out of the No. 8 spot heading into Sunday's visit by the Montreal Canadiens, the goal for Florida now is to try to move a few contracts and see if the club can set the course for next year after the Panthers fell back.
Quote:

Sources say the top name being dangled is right winger Kris Versteeg, but if he gets moved it will take a big financial commitment. The 26-year-old has $4.4 million cap hit through the 2015-16 season and he has been hampered by injuries.

I'd be surprised it Florida moved Versteeg so quickly after he formed part of Florida's top line last year, though Garrioch also says Weiss would have been moved had he not gone out for surgery.

PS: For those saying "It's Garrioch" or some form of that, to be fair to him, he was the first one to say Montreal was shopping Erik Cole, and four days later he got traded!

IranCondraAffair 03-10-2013 12:36 PM

I wouldn't be surprised if he was moved.

He's got a big salary and Florida has a budget.

It's clear they're not making the playoffs and Vertseeg will garner some interest.

I don't think he's being shopped, but I think Florida will be listening to offers...and if the right one came along...

Vitto79 03-10-2013 12:39 PM

still think FLA could get Luongo. 3 way deal

FLA- Luongo
NYI-Markstrom
Van- Versteeg, Goc, Nabokov, picks from NYI and FLA

Jesus Christ Horburn 03-10-2013 12:40 PM

I'd love Versteeg on the Jets.

We already have the Hawks connection with Ladd and Buff, plus he kills us every time.

Andy 03-10-2013 12:41 PM

Kopecky will be a guy a lot of teams will look at.

DrDangles 03-10-2013 12:42 PM

I'd like to see Weaver to the Pens. Also, what's going on with Bergenheim?

Versteeg, Markstrom, Goc, and picks for Luongo?

I think it's guaranteed that Florida and Vancouver will make a trade at/before the deadline.
Vancouver needs a 3rd line center/top 6 winger.

Matt Damon 03-10-2013 12:51 PM

Versteeg could be a tough move with 3 more years at $4.4 annually. Would be a big committment, but if a team is in desperate need of secondary scoring I could see it.

Kopecky will definitely be on a lot of teams radars. Goc and Weaver could be some good depth pick-ups.

How long is Jose Theodore out for? He's a UFA and could be a good pick-up for a team looking for a solid back-up option.

Why are you so hellbent on Florida acquiring Luongo and trading Markstrom away? It just makes no sense at all and won't happen.

[QUOTE=inthewings;61369563]Versteeg, Markstrom, Goc, and picks for Luongo?

yea Luongo stinks and all.

Markstrom would have to go in a deal and they could flip him to a team like the Isles that need a goalie

Versteeg overachieved last yr

Goc is a 3rd liner.

Didnt say high picks but midround

overlords 03-10-2013 12:56 PM

What would florida want for kopecky?

edruga 03-10-2013 12:56 PM

Versteeg's available? Say it ain't so.

Dread Clawz 03-10-2013 12:58 PM

Weaver is out 3-4 weeks
Theodore is out 4-5 weeks
Bergenheim is out for the season, he will have surgery soon on the (knee?)

officeglen 03-10-2013 12:59 PM

six points out, they are "virtually eliminated"? and look at their division?

I'd really would like to see Versteeg back with the Hawks. That's a guy I'd really would welcome back.

or he should go to Winnipeg and play with Ladd again. They had some good chemistry

It makes zero sense for Florida to move Markstrom for the age 34-42 seasons of Luongo and his giant salary. That's not a knock on Luongo, it's just that Markstrom is an elite prospect and they have a chance this year to let him get his feet wet. The idea that they'd add Versteeg, Goc, and picks to make this change is absurd.

Swapping Markstrom for Luongo's 5M long term contract makes no sense from Florida's perspective. Markstrom is playing well and is going to stick around for a long time.

It might as well be 60 points out. We've been "only" 6 points out for the whole season. We're not going to make the playoffs with this injury-decimated club.

It's not easy to make up 5 points in the current NHL.

The Sens are still hanging in, the Panthers have some of the best young talent, and what we are seeing here is the young guns are willing to give everything they have to get a NHL gig

The kids are playing great and are the only reason the Panthers are not 12 pts. out right now. There's just not enough besides the kids right now. A lot of the vets are having off seasons. The Sens at least have Anderson. Markstrom is playing well, but he's still a rookie getting his feet wet. He can't carry the team yet.
