Brenden Morrow

What's the situation with Morrow this year? Is he expected to re-sign or would the Stars move him?
What would be a reasonable return for him?

Modo 03-11-2013 12:25 PM

Odds are 70-30 that he gets moved at or before the deadline.

My money's on Boston picking him up as a rental.

As far as value goes, I'd be happy with a few picks/prospects of undetermined potential.....it'd be a waste to hold out hope for a 1st round pick going the other way.

Mr Misty 03-11-2013 12:30 PM

There isn't really room for him going forward, so he is certainly not going to be resigned. I expect a trade to be coming, especially since Cole is a replacement for him and there is no room for Morrow when the team is healthy.

BigHabs 03-11-2013 12:30 PM

I think Montreal and Boston are going to be looking at both Morrow and Clowe.

I think one of them will go to one team and the other player to the other team.

But like the post above, Morrow is likely on the Bruins radar and they have some pieces to acquire him as well.

Though Montreal I could see trying to get Morrow + Robidas from Dallas that includes a dman and picks or prospects.

BigG44 03-11-2013 01:00 PM

The chances of Morrow moving very soon are good IMO. He has a slight groin tweak that kept him out of Saturday's game, but he's day to day and should be healthy soon.

Whitney is likely returning to the lineup Tuesday, and depending on the severity of Jamie Benn's wrist injury, my guess is as soon as Benn is ready to go Morrow is gone. He could honestly be gone sooner since GM Joe said he feels comfortable with Matt Fraser in the NHL right now.

TheHudlinator 03-11-2013 01:01 PM

For some reason he seems like a NJ type of pickup most likely won't cost an arm and a leg and can add some nice depth to their roster.

It's Brenden Morrow, not Brendan.

Maybe a Moen for Morrow trade to revive them
but who would Robidas replace on the right side, Emelin, Subbane, Diaz??
if its a D, he has to be big and nasty

TrillMike 03-11-2013 01:58 PM

I'd bet on him being moved before the deadline. I think he ends up in either Boston or Pittsburgh.

oconnor9sean 03-11-2013 02:01 PM

If Paul Gaustad can get a first rounder from someone, Morrow can. I could see Boston/Pittsburgh/Montreal affording their 1st for Morrow.

How many times must we go over this? Nashville was desperate to keep Detroit from getting him for a 2nd.

Gaustad wasn't a rapidly declining overpaid injury prone player. He's also elite at faceoffs and on the PK. Morrow isn't. The most Morrow returns is a 2nd, more likely he gets a 3rd and a B prospect. The only way you get a 1st is if you keep 1/2 salary.

Dellstrom 03-11-2013 02:19 PM

I'd give a 2nd for him and be happy, but nothing past that.

Bergevin has said it more than once that he isn't not giving away the future for rentals. Most likely mid picks and a okay - decent prospect. But I don't see him giving away a 1st rounder with good upside for a rental.

Gaustad is also an excellent faceoff man, something Morrow isnt. Morrow has recovered from being an absolute black hole at the start of the season, but he's still getting up there in age, a UFA to be, and not the same player he used to be. I'd gladly take a 2nd for him if we can get it.

Rapidly declining, but still better than Gaustad in the points department. 26 Points in 57 Games for Morrow last year, 11 Points in 23 Games this year.

21 Points in 70 Games for Gaustad last year, and 4 Points in 18 Games this year.

Overall, Morrow has better production now and at his prime Morrow was a lot better in production.

Morrow is a better leader, a captain for many years, has an Olympic gold medal and brings that playoff mindset to any team he joins. Gaustad peaks at 4 points in the playoffs back in 05-06.

Sure, Morrow is a few years older and Guastad is good on the dot, but I would not be surprised if Morrow fetched a first at the deadline. Not expecting it, but to say that Guastad was being targeted by Detroit is not a valid argument why Morrow can't get a first this year with Boston, Montreal, Pittsburgh potentially wanting him.

Sevanston 03-11-2013 04:30 PM

I would take him for the Hawks' 4th line as long as he can still play defense.

He'd be better than the three-headed pile of meh that is Mayers, Bollig, and Carcillo.

To Dallas:
Louis Leblanc

To Montreal:
Brenden Morrow

Pittsburgh isn't giving up a first in a deep draft for Morrow. That would be utterly dumb. A second, I could see maybe. Stop using Nashville being stupid for giving up a first for Gaustad as ammo. Bergevin and Shero aren't dumb.

Al Swearengen 03-11-2013 04:57 PM

I think Morrow as a rental is worth a mid-late 2nd. Always been a big fan of his, but obviously the guy is on (or nearly on) his last legs. Still could be a pretty significant piece for a team with cup aspirations who needs a veteran warrior.

so if someone made a stupid move doesn't mean someone else will

I can assure you Habs will not offer a 1st rounder, probably not even a 2nd
maybe a 3rd and a prospect at most

only edge Habs might have is the Carbo connection

with a full lineup he would be a 4th liner here

LatvianTwist 03-11-2013 06:55 PM

Caron, LeBlanc, or Bleuger would get it done for me from any of those teams.

BigG44 03-11-2013 07:19 PM

Boston had 2 scouts in LA when Dallas was there, and Dallas has 2 scouts at the Boston game tonight.

I still believe Whitney getting healthy would be the catalyst for a Morrow trade, and Whitney has a good chance of returning tomorrow. I really do believe he's getting moved soon.

WilliamNylander 03-11-2013 07:21 PM

maybe a 2nd?
