Gilbert/Schultz trade

A post was made on the Edmonton board asking who "won" the trade. I'm wondering what other Wild fans think. Personally, I think Minnesota did well. I didn't really follow the Wild until 2010 so I had no deep attachment to Schultz. When he was traded, I was excited for a PMD. What do you all think? Did the Wild win this trade?

BigT2002 03-11-2013 12:53 PM

Love Gilbert on the team. Schultz was great with defense, but there was 0 chance he would be helping offensively.

TheeNorthStar 03-11-2013 01:04 PM

I liked this trade a lot.

Gilbert

As far as I can tell, both teams won.

Jarick 03-11-2013 01:05 PM

Happy with the trade. Gilbert is much better at moving the puck and shooting as well and has been more physical and aggressive in his end than Schultz ever was. Honestly there's really no downside of this trade for me.

rynryn 03-11-2013 01:06 PM

i thought Gilbert looked like hot garbage in Eddy...was never a fan. appreciated Schultz here so wasn't very optimistic even though i realized why we made the trade (more movement on the blueline). Pleasantly surprised after gilbert had a few games to settle in. AFAIK it could be win-win, but i definitely feel like we won.

I liked Schultz, but we so won this trade.

Gilbert is a perfect second paring d. Schultz, 5-6 on a good team, and very limited in his skill set.

Love BNTG.

You don't say....

Anyways, worked out well for us. Looking back on it I really like the trade.

Since we're on the topics of trades, we should examine the Havlat/Heater trade and Burns/[Coyle, Gucci, 1st] trade. I wonder what Sharks fans are thinking now.

Two of my friends on that side of the country still love the trade. Havlat has played well and Burns as well. Seto wasn't a Top 6 player on that team.

I'm not sure how anyone can claim that Havlat has played well....

Also the Zids trade.

The Havlat/Heater trade and the Burns/stuff trade is a win/win for both teams.

Can't really examine that trade until Bussieres develops more and we see who we pick with the 3rd we got this year.

Yes...had we re-signed Burns, there is no way we could've signed Suter...and by extension Parise, either, as they were a package item.

So, essentially it was:

Brent Burns
2nd round pick

for

Devon Setoguchi
Charlie Coyle
Zach Phillips
Ryan Suter
Zach Parise

You tell me who won that trade? :sarcasm:

Marcolepsy Scandella 03-11-2013 03:02 PM

Isn't Schultz like dead last in the league in +/- ? I say we won. And it's not close.

Well I only changed my username as a joke.

Wildfish 03-11-2013 03:25 PM

It could be a Win-Win but I don't care about Edm. IMO it was a very big Win for the Wild. No doubt in my mind we're a better team with Gilbert than with Schultz.

NHL1674 03-11-2013 03:30 PM

The other perspective.

Engebretson 03-11-2013 03:54 PM

We got a Minnesota native which is the main criteria for why we would want a player to begin with. We win :yo:

I wonder if Wild management realize they got the wrong Justin Falk yet?

Minnesota Gilbert > Edmonton Gilbert

Minnesota Schultz > Edmonton Schultz
