I remember Dan Sexton from a couple years ago, don't know Kyle Wilson. AHL deal is AHL deal.

danishh 03-11-2013 04:08 PM

sexton looked good a couple of years ago in the NHL. Surprised he hasnt had another crack at it yet.

if tampa doesnt rise up the standings soon he could get a shot down the stretch.

Good luck Big Sexy!

Bish Please 03-11-2013 04:11 PM

Syracuse will like it, I know Wilson has been a disappointment to them.

quentez 03-11-2013 04:11 PM

Sexton is averaging about 5% in shooting percentage in the AHL. The guy is a machine when it comes to firing off without scoring.

Fallenity 03-11-2013 04:12 PM

Who's Wilson?

And Tampa fans, please keep the nickname Big Sexy for Sexton!

caley 03-11-2013 04:13 PM

Kyle Wilson will always have a special place in my heart for the time TSN has him listed their transactions and pretty much misprinted his name as badly as a name could be misprinted, replacing the L in Kyle with a K.

Center originally drafted by Minnesota in 2004. Played a couple games for Washington then signed with Columbus. Played 30-something games there then signed in Nashville. He was part of the Anders Lindback deal last year and went to Tampa Bay.

Seems to me like a fringe NHL fourth liner at best.

If my maths are good, Syracuse had 7 veterans (Côté, Nightingale, Wyman, Angelidis, Wilson, Mikkelson and Jacques) before making that trade

AHL teams can only dress 6 veteran. Seems like Wilson was the odd man out.

Wouldn't Sexton also qualify as a Vet? Or not enough AHL games yet?

Spicy Porkins 03-11-2013 04:28 PM

Mikkelson? Brendan Mikkelson is in the minors you say? Tee hee.

Anyway, Sexton has some skill, he's fast and fearless. But his shot is weak and wildly inaccurate, and he's extremely small and simply cannot penetrate inside an NHL defense. For a while he was a great AHL producer, but he got pushed down the depth chart and hasn't been effective there either.

Hope he works out for you.

No he doesn't

Vet = 260 pro games played prior to the current season

Sexton was only at 189.

OG Kuch 03-11-2013 04:33 PM

I like this for Syracuse. Wilson never really got going.

He played in Syracuse the last 2 years with the Ducks minor league team.

Sexton was on a 1 way deal this year. I imagine Wilson is on a 2 way deal correct? Saves the Ducks a little extra cash.

Not correct.

Wilson is on a one way deal which is why Nashville made us take him in the first place.

Lol well never mind then.

So what's the story on Sexton?

Undersized and a weak and inaccurate shot. But great speed, feisty, will hustle non-stop, and throws everything at the net. Had good numbers in limited minutes with Anaheim (32 points in 88 games), but never really got a shot for whatever reason. He's sort of a slightly poorer man's Andrew Ebbett

BudMaster17 03-11-2013 06:03 PM

Who? And Who?

Honour Over Glory 03-11-2013 06:04 PM

Minor trades man...it's those dominoes and such.

Big things on the horizon.

Seriously, the small trades is just making me want the deadline to come sooner.

Jets 03-11-2013 06:32 PM

damn would've liked to have seen Big Sexy in STJ. I remember his days with the Moose, and followed a few of his games with the ducks. He seems like a bit of a tweener Jason Jaffray/Jason Krog type guy who's slightly undersized for the show, but could really light up the A. Has a decent shot to go with his surprising speed.

JacketsFanWest 03-11-2013 07:30 PM

Wilson had a streak of good games for the Jackets in 2010-11 where he looked like he might be a decent 2nd liner, but then struggled. He was one of those 'tweener players who isn't quite good enough to be in the top 6, but only average defensively and not physical enough to be a grinder. He's had time to work on his game in the minors since then, so he may have improved.
