Kinda of old news, I posted the link with the comments of Grabo yesterday morning already.

Burke was bad and good, he deserves both sides of it.

WeWantACup 03-11-2013 04:27 PM

The article was yesterday we spoke to him today.
he also gives his thoughts on this years Leafs.

WeWantACup 03-11-2013 04:28 PM

I give Burke credit for rebuilding our prospects pool, not sure he gets more than that, his reluctance to fire Ron Wilson coincided with his firing I think, after Ronnie was fired, ironically target was on Burke.

Wasn't Feschuk the ONE who called Reimers mom? If so how was that not personal?

Duke Silver 03-11-2013 04:47 PM

Feschuk is an absolute joke of a journalist. You can do (and have done) better with your guest selection. Hate giving this guy any attention.

100% true

/end thread

IMHO I love that Dave threw a few shots back at Burke, as I said in the show anyone who says he wants to haunt the Leafs is no friend.

I hope Burke gets shot down every time he talks down about our team. This guy has the guts to go speak at MIT and says to the stats folks "Statistics are like a lamp post to a drunk. Useful for support but not for illumination." His redioric hurt this team.

Reporters don't need permission to search out the news or truth.

Sorry, but independent people don't need to ask Clubs for permission, that isn't how news is done.

Maybe Burkie was drinking the night before? Burkie's just talking from experience

Wouldn't it be great if that was what actually happened? Too bad Reimer's follow up specialist agreed 100% with his original diagnosis and not that of his mommy.

How news SHOULD be done is to be responsible and factual, not inflammatory and ridiculous.

He's completely correct.

Burke deserves much of the respect. He built a great team imho. His attitude was what did him in...

canary 03-11-2013 06:33 PM

Burke was a great GM. He hired some of the best staff in the game and put some prospects in what was an empty pool for years before he got here. He essentially built this team from nothing, and aside from the Kessel trade didn't make any real bad moves (only because the Kessel trade is hotly debated, feel free to disagree).

However, his inability to fire his pal Ron Wilson when it was clear he wasn't working led to Burke's downfall. This team is the same as Burke's team (minus JVR) and with a different system the team has some early season success.

number72 03-11-2013 06:42 PM

Burke wants all the accolades but none of the accountability for results. How about three years of no playoffs, some terrible signings and questionable trades to balance this years playoff run, a few good signings and some positive trades.

He pretty much finishes average.

Parkdale 03-11-2013 08:35 PM

Enjoyed listening to this interview...thanks. Well done.

Cor 03-11-2013 08:48 PM

1. Burke deserves most of the credit... why wouldn't he? Only player Nonis has added was McLaren, who will likely be sitting most nights when Lupul returns.

2. Considering Burke has acknowledged most of his mistakes, I highly doubt he is telling people to just "ignore them".

This reporter is a joke (Feschuk) and has some sort of personal animosity against Burke.

It's about respect. Why go bug parents about how their kid is? If the leafs said he has whiplash (which he did, it was backed up) then you do that.

It's idiotic to go around being sneaky like that. There is no need to do that, and shows a lack of respect.

DD03 03-11-2013 08:52 PM

Why doesn't Burke get credit? What has been done since he left? Kadri was called up? A coach was hired? :help:

Burke has ALREADY been scrutinized and held accountable for every single thing he's done in the last 4 years. What he hasnt received is the much-deserved accolades that go along putting together a playoff-worthy team. The hole that was dug by both JFJ and Fletcher was huge, and regardless of who was managing, results werent gonna be known for at least a few years...you just cant change a team overnight.

The media surrounding the Leafs is some of the worst media in the world. It is completely outrageous some of the stuff they get away with. Unfortunately, its not much different than the rest of the world...when something good happens, you never hear about it, BUT let a single, tiny bad thing happen, and its blown up and out of proportion over and over and over.

In the end, Burke has done way more good than bad here. Alot of times it felt like he was unnecessarily loud and boisterous, but it seems like alot of that was done to draw media attention away from the Leafs, who were struggling at the time to find their own identity, and didnt need to have the media all over them 24/7 (would still love to find the reporter and editor who put that Kadri with a pacifier pic on the front page and shoot them in the face). When you have a media that will stoop to doing stuff like that, then it becomes his job to do what he has to do to protect his players. Plain and simple.

Personally, i miss Burke.

Kadri made the team and we claimed a tough guy. Two things that likely would have been done either way.

Not sure which coach you are talking about

I'm talking about Carlyle. I was being sarcastic

Burke deserves all credit. Nonis deserves the credit for not pulling the trigger on the Luongo deal, if there was one.

oh

I agree 100%

Pi 03-11-2013 09:07 PM

Burke...just go away. You made some good deals but lets not act like you would have traded Matt Lombardi , put your fellow American on waivers if it was in your hands.

You promised a tough team and didn't live up to it. Nonis didn't promise anything but he's showing a lot of patience with a young team...something he have done.
