Excited for the kid.

zeykshade 03-14-2013 10:40 AM

This should be interesting. Hope he doesn't get mauled.

I am excited to watch him play today, but yeah I am worried about his size. The NHL is a different animal.

They have a lot of big guys in the A as well. Just not big guys that can catch you !! The kid definitely deserves a look, I am somewhat surprised it wasn't Tyrell that was recalled but I love seeing the future with these young guys.

Tyrell isn't a C.

But Hall and Killorn are. Glad to see Johnson up he deserves a shot.

CC321 03-14-2013 01:55 PM

I'm glad to see him called up also.

Conacher has been taking some vicious hits, maybe trying to show he's tough enough to take it. It's not a good strategy though, as some NHLers are not shy about making full speed shoulder to head or elbow to head contact, and the referees don't seem too bothered by it either. Note to Johnson and Conacher: Everyone's brain is made of gelatin, no matter how physically tough they are. Use your elusiveness to protect your head. Good luck.

I'd like to put this question to SFY.

"So...What are we doin' here, what's the plan?"

Tampacuseforever 03-14-2013 02:25 PM

It's not a plan it's a PROCESS jeez :sarcasm:

Glide5 03-14-2013 07:10 PM

The plan is, see whose ready to come up for next year... and expect this year to be a push I guess...

How'd he look?

Didn't get a ton of icetime, but he had a beautiful saucer pass to Hedman in the crease that could have led to a good scoring chance.

But we then overpassed it.

Definitely earned more ice time in my opinion. Wasn't as assertive as the other Crunch players who seem to step right in.

This. The Cooper hasn't been coached out of him. They didn't put him on a line with Palat, huge mistake. Those two are like peas and carrots together.

LightningStrikes 03-15-2013 05:47 AM

And another kid we get to watch. Exciting season.

He was out there at least once with him.

Conacher Johnson Palat where a line during the Calder cup playoffs last year, they started this year first 10 games as a line this year. The one time Palat played with Johnson last night they took Conacher off and put Killorn on. Just wouldn't want the players to get too comfortable out there. Killorn has never played with the two before.

Noticed that. I can see why Guy did it though, Palat doesn't carry a lot of pounds, TJ is small, and Killer goes to the corners. Gotta have someone in there who will go to the dirty area and beat a few guys to the puck.

Can't argue with that logic , but we know 89 goes to the dirty areas as well, and I hated seeing 17-91-26 split up.

The Killorn line is usually the best line that we have. I'd like to see Killorn with Purcell to see if that can shift his play.

For Johnson, to be honest, I don't think it matters what line he ends up on. He seems flexible with his linemates.

ultra63 03-15-2013 06:06 PM

I sit on the glass and he sure looked tiny and scared to me. He looks like an elf compared to Connacher. Gudas however seemed to be on the ice a lot and seemed to be our #1 defender albeit with a much clipped beard.

MattM92 03-15-2013 07:13 PM

I don't know how well Johnson's game will translate with how small he is. Conacher is small too but he has a fiery attitude and isn't afraid of anything. Marty isn't scared either. Johnson seemed a bit timid, he won't make it if he stays that way.

Labrie was timid in his first games. If Labrie can play timid at his size, you can't really blame Johnson for not feeling at ease out there in NHL Game #1.
