HFNYR Board Rules: Updated 3/5/2014
It's been a while since we've done a rules refresher on the Rangers board. To remind everyone:

SPAM: A post with no content, that offers nothing to the discussion is considered spam. Examples:

OT photo or video response

If you don't care for a thread, don't read it. And certainly don't post in it. Posts will be deleted without explanation. Repeat offenders will receive a spamming infraction.

REDUNDANT THREADS: Read before you post. 99% of new threads are moved, closed and deleted because the discussion is already taking place in another thread
Is your topic “thread worthy”? Topics NEED to be a jumping off point for a discussion, as opposed to a random thought or rant.

BAITING/INCITING/TROLLING: We reserve the right to shut down any thread that serves only to get a rise out of fellow members. Too often, nothing constructive comes from these discussion and we’re left to moderate a pissing contest and clean up the mess.

FLAMING: Do not criticize fellow members on a personal level and do not insult them. Do not use sweeping generalizations to attack opposing points of view ("Anyone that believes xxxxx is an idiot!"). Be respectful of other users.

AIRING OF GRIEVANCES: Matters of board business are not to be discussed in the forum. If you have question, comment or issue with an Administrator or Moderator, please handle it via PM’s. That includes concerns about the board policy. Do not discuss warnings, infractions or post deletions on the boards. If a moderator issues a directive in the thread, it's not for discussion.

WISHING DEATH/INJURY: To put it bluntly, it won’t be tolerated under any circumstance. Posts will be deleted and the appropriate infraction applied. This applies to players, coaches, officials, owners, public figures, board members, and anyone else.

If you encounter a post that you think may violate HF's policies, or board protocol, please report the post in question. Do not respond to the post--all that does is create more of a mess to be cleaned up.

In addition to the threads stickied to the top of the forum, we have a number of other recurring/important threads to be aware of. If you have a question or discussion topic relevant to one of the below threads, please post it there:

We also have threads for discussion of non-hockey sports (NFL, MLB, NBA, soccer) and an Off-Topic Discussion thread. Please make sure to confine talk of those subjects to their dedicated threads. If you don't see the thread on the forum's first page, scroll back a page or two.

If any of these links become outdated, please let a moderator know through PM and it will be updated.

Please re-read these rules.

As Zenith said in the OT Thread, it has been discontinued.

We feel that there have been too many memes and garbage posts recently we feel this issue has stemmed from OT Thread seeping into the regular board talk.

Also, you can PM Zenith or me with any questions regarding this issue.

THE OT ENVIRONMENT ENDS NOW. Enough is enough. This is a board where we discuss hockey, first and foremost. At first, it was nice to have the OT thread, but lately, it's become the OT board. It's not happening. To the people who kept their OT discussion to the OT thread, I apologize, but to those who decided to derail other topics into nothing but 4chan level discussion - this is your warning to knock it off. No more spam, no more taking threads off topic.

Any questions regarding the OT thread or clarification of the rules should be sent to a moderator via PM.

I'm noticing a huge increase in posts that "fix" or edit quotes from other users. Please understand:

19) Forum Specific Rules: Please check the sticky threads at the top of each forum for any forum specific rules. Make sure you read the Lounge Manifesto, and posting requirements for the Trade Rumors forum. For all forums, you may reply to a partial quote, but quotes by other members are not to be edited.
I know that virtually none of these fixes are malicious in nature but jokingly or not, editing another members post via a quote is against the rules.

Please make sure to use the appropriate thread prefix when starting a new thread. It helps to keep things organized, and makes it easier to find an old thread. As an FYI, clicking on a thread's prefix will display all threads with a similar prefix on our board. Frequently used prefixes include:

Line Combinations
Prospect Info
Injury Report

Proper utilization of prefixes makes the board more enjoyable for everyone.

The GDT is not the Tortorella thread. It is not the Gaborik thread. If you guys want to discuss these topics, by all means, do so - but, please, discuss them in the appropriate thread. Most people read the GDT to keep up with and discuss the game, and for play by play. Not the "TORTS THE CLOWN" crap people are mostly posting.

It needs to stop.

Also, please keep the PGT poll options to players.

Bob Richards Edit:

We are going to start cracking down on useless, borderline trolling posts that generally consist of nothing more than “Clownorella, Fire Torts, etc.” over and over and over again. It’s extremely grating and offers nothing insightful to the game itself. Criticizing a certain aspect of the game is always welcome, but heaping on incessant, unfunny posts serve as nothing more than a detriment to the GDT. Now, I know that it is essentially a Play-by-play thread and every post shouldn’t be expected to be a tediously written analysis of the game, but we ask you to please curb discussions that do not pertain to the game itself. Torts has his own thread, Gaborik has his own thread. Nearly everything has its own corresponding thread. The GDT is meant for discussion of the game and everything relevant to that particular game.

Regarding vulgar/offensive language: do not assume that if something is not censored by the profanity filter that you are free to use it as an insult. For instance:
  • ********
  • Gay
  • Dick
  • Penis/vagina
None of those words are filtered, however, none of them should be used in a derogatory, insulting manner. Calling someone "gay" or referring to something as "********" is offensive and will be treated as such. It's ridiculous that a group of grown-ass people have to be reminded not to insult others like children, but it is what it is. Don't do it.

With the off-season officially upon us, we're going to make a small change. We are steering away from general, all-purpose "player discussion" threads and back towards news-driven or pointed threads. PM me with any questions.

Okay, it's been getting a bit to tense, unorganized and hostile around here the past few days with the lack of activity, so I thought I'd refresh some folks on the rules:

1) Flaming: Do not post any messages that harass, insult (name calling), belittle, threaten or mock other members. Debates are fine, but critique the opinion, not the person. Personal attacks are not permitted. Do not call other posters trolls. Do not use sweeping generalizations and plural pronouns to cloak personal attacks. For example if a poster(s) states that he thinks 'x' is a good idea, replying that "Anyone who supports 'x' is an idiot" is a personal attack. Do not start threads to call out and embarrass other members; or make posts about ignore lists.

Discuss the post, not the poster. Tensions have been flaring a bit. The board, as a whole, needs to veer away from discussing posters in these threads, and stick to hockey.

3) Spamming: Please do not double post or cross-post the same message in multiple forums. You will not PM or email multiple members of this site the same message. This includes "bump threads" and posts intended merely to increase one's post count. Worthless posts with no content and nonsensical posts eat up space and waste everyone's time. One or two word responses such as "Me Too", "I agree", "great post!", smileys not accompanied by content, and similar responses may be considered spam. Creating large blank areas in posts is spam. These are not allowed on the hockey forums. Fantasy League announcements/solicitations are to be posted in the Fantasy Talk and Hockey Video Games Forum ONLY. If you solicit on our other forums you will be given an infraction for spamming and your posts will be deleted. Moderators on the team forums are permitted to allow a fantasy league thread or two for that team's fans (e.g., NY Ranger Fans Yahoo Fantasy League). Anything beyond that must use the Fantasy forum. Only free fantasy leagues are permitted. If you're charging money for it, take out an ad.

There have also been too many worthless posts that contribute nothing to the discussion at hand, as of late. If you're going to post, please at least make an attempt at contributing to the topic, not just "OMG THIS WAS SO AWESOME" or "OMG I HATE THIS SO MUCH".

10) Off-Topic Posting: Posts are to be on the topic of the board description where they're posted. Off Topic posts may be moved or closed at the moderators discretion. We do not allow homework threads. All political discussion is to be done on the Political Discussion Forum.

This has also been a problem as of late. We have threads dedicated to one subject turning into a thread about something completely different. It needs to stop. If you want to discuss something, and don't see a thread currently open to do so in, feel free to start a new thread. We don't need you starting a new thread every single time an idea pops into your head, though, it clogs up the board.

Thank you. Any questions can be directed to a moderator via PM.

Crease 09-13-2013 06:34 PM

Since the season is right around the corner, this is a good time to remind everyone. Please DO NOT use "Player Discussion Threads" tags. We are no longer doing general all-purpose threads for individual players. It is perfectly fine to have two threads about the same player (the topics being different, of course).

Kahuna Nanu 09-28-2013 04:52 PM

The constant stream of passive aggressive flaming needs to stop, now. It's getting ridiculous. It's the damn preseason and people are already getting personal in every thread. No need to be hostile, people.

Megustaelhockey 03-05-2014 09:52 AM

Hey, everyone. Recently, we have seen an increase in the number of threads devoted to discussing former coach John Tortorella and/or the system he employed when he was with the Rangers. As this coaching era is now in the team's past, threads about it are no longer considered on topic.

Please refrain from discussing Tortorella or his system in any thread other than "Around the NHL." Any further threads on this topic may be met with warnings or infractions and will be deleted.

You may PM any member of the moderator team with questions or concerns.

All times are GMT -5. The time now is 08:48 PM.
