Canucks Aggressively Pursuing Trade (Interested in Steve Ott & Derek Roy)

Per Insider Trading tonight
-Per Pierre LeBrun, Canucks have contacted Buffalo about Steve Ott. Thus far, Buffalo is not interested in moving him.
-Mike Gillis has been calling everyone trying to get a deal done. Very aggressively pursuing a trade.
-Per Bob McKenzie, Canucks may have interest in Derek Roy whom they feel would be the perfect #3 center for them after Kesler's return. Roy is an UFA this summer and has not discussed an extension with Dallas.

Here's a link McKenzie provided, but I can't get it to work, I managed to go through TSN.ca to get it to play.

I know they tried hard to get Ott last year as well. Funny that these 2 players were just traded for each other, wonder who they feel won that deal.

Text link via Pierre LeBrun, doesn't discuss Roy, though.

Sources around the league tell ESPN.com that Canucks GM Mike Gillis has been very active making phone calls over the past 7-10 days, checking in with nearly every team in the league to see if thereís any fit for a trade.

As weíve seen with the lack of trades around the league, easier said than done.

Vancouver desperately wants to find help at center. They havenít had a No. 3 center all year and No. 2 center Ryan Kesler is out for the second time this season because of injury.

Had Stephen Weiss not gone down with season-ending wrist surgery in Florida, I believe the Canucks would have got into bidding for the Panthers center.

Iím also told the Canucks checked in with the Buffalo Sabres recently. Steve Ott would be a perfect fit as the No. 3 center in Vancouver, and the Canucks had conversations with the Dallas Stars last season about him. But at this point, it doesnít appear as though the Sabres are making Ott available.

Hatrick Marleau 03-14-2013 10:27 PM

I'm glad the Sabres aren't interested in moving Ott. The Nucks are already annoying and I'm happy the Otter is out of the west.

Supposedly DAL wanted Hodgson and a pick for Ott last year

If true we can see why no deal took place.

Sounds like a perfect fit for Derick Brassard: a playmaking center who can slot in on either the second or third lines.

Vancouver 1st for Steve Ott
Niklas Jensen for Derek Roy

Then, move Schneider for picks/prospects to restock our youth.

Ho Borvat 03-14-2013 10:42 PM

Boom: Top-6 play maker for Kesler
3rd line gritty checking line center.

CapitalsCupFantasy 03-14-2013 10:43 PM

Get your Mike Riberio....Ribeiro for sale!

Wouldn't move Jensen for Roy. 1st for Ott I wouldn't hate, but I wouldn't neccessarily like either.

Trade our best and most NHL-ready prospect for a potential rental on our 3rd line, really?

If Dallas would do Schroeder for him I would prefer that.

But I feel like we would be able to return a Jensen-esque winger in a goalie trade

Nullus Reverentia 03-14-2013 10:45 PM

I forsee no scenario where Roy signs anywhere to be a third line center.

Timbo Slice 03-14-2013 10:47 PM

Steve Ott is not leaving Buffalo.

LatvianTwist 03-14-2013 10:47 PM

I'd move Roy to Vancouver this season, depending on the offer.

Doesn't sound like we're anywhere close to signing him.

Someone on here offered Roy + Robidas + Glennie for Grabovski + Gunnarsson. I'd really like that.

He would likely pair up with Kesler in Vans top-6

Random Forest 03-14-2013 10:49 PM

Vancouver and Philly are probably the best trade partners in the league right now.

Would not be at all surprised to see Couturier in Vancouver by the deadline. Possibly Briere.

Your not going to trade for a top line play maker to put him on the 3rd line... He would be Keslers BFF if he were traded here.

Ballard + Schneider

Couturier +

Flyers get a puck moving D and a goalie.

start winnin 03-14-2013 10:56 PM

I doubt Ott gets moved unless we're getting Jensen back.

CaptPantalones 03-14-2013 11:00 PM

Sounds dumb to say but given the price they paid to get him in Roy, Ott may very well be untouchable

Ballard is not close to the puck moving D the Flyers are looking for.

No. Stop trying to pass off your overpaid healthy scratch player for quality.
