Is there any ambidexter in the NHL today?

I mean a player who can shoot both from right and left.

Colin226 03-15-2013 04:17 PM

They'd have to play with a straight stick and I feel like the speed of the game would make it tough, because they would constantly have to change their grip.. Just seems like its something that is heavily discouraged

I don't think he means mid game...

Grant 03-15-2013 04:19 PM

Goalies I guess are? :dunno:

Don't know of any players though.

I Hate Chris Butler 03-15-2013 04:28 PM

There probably are. It's just more beneficial to play with a curved stick.

Chukcha 03-15-2013 04:33 PM

it would be interesting to watch ambidexter's deking when he's changing his grip.

I think Abdelkader is probably the closest. Only need to switch a few letters.

 Well played.

Fortheloveofthegame 03-15-2013 04:54 PM

Wasn't Chelios? He is the only one I know of

Passchendaele 03-15-2013 04:59 PM

It would be interesting: A team is low on available right-handed defensemen, one of them can start shooting right instead of left.

whaleoil 03-15-2013 05:00 PM

I remember #12 (jersey with the big "C" small "H") switching up while going through the team with the "B" on their jersey and scoring.
Late 60's....my earliest memory of HNIC.

already a thread here

BringBacktheThrash 03-15-2013 05:06 PM

Gaustad can take faceoffs left handed and right handed.

Mr.Prez 03-15-2013 05:15 PM

Brodeur can shoot right or left. It helps having a flat paddle.

Bieber fever 03-15-2013 05:31 PM

Crosby is probably better from his wrong side then most player

SlugLife978 03-15-2013 05:35 PM

Kaleta shoots righty and fights lefty...

That was my goal of the year.

Never seen anything like that before, and probably won't see something like that again.

I heard Gordie Howe could shoot both left and right.

No, that's just wrong.

If I played hockey I think I'd quite like to try to be ambidextrous. Could be very useful, if you were good enough to do it.

I played on a rollerhockey team with a guy who shot left and used a left handed curve but would switch it around to make certain plays. It was actually effective. He was also playing in the dub at the time and was better then most people in our league.

That doesn't make him ambidextrous

Neither does being able to shoot both left and right.

Being able to shoot both left and right equally would make someone ambidextrous in hockey
