Nazem Kadri's 2nd Contract

With the recent extension of OEL at 6 years/5.5M per, everyone in the top 6 of the 2009 draft are on big contracts now except for Brayden Schenn (who still has 2 years left on his ELC, even then has a 3.11M cap hit).

Here are the top 6's current contracts:

1. John Tavares: 5.5M through 2018
2. Victor Hedman: 4.0M through 2017
3. Matt Duchene: 3.5M through 2014
4. Evander Kane: 5.25M through 2018
5. Brayden Schenn: 3.11M through 2014 (ELC)
6. Oliver Ekman-Larsson: 5.5M through 2019

Other notables:

14. Dmitry Kulikov: 2.5M through 2014.
33. Ryan O'Reilly: 5.0M through 2014.

Considering Kadri's play so far this year, what do you think his contract is going to end up being? Somewhere in the 4 million range? 5 million range? How long should it be? I think if he keeps up his play, 4 years at 4.0-5.0M wouldn't be bad, but could be risky considering it's his first season.

Something similar to Duchene, he hasn't established himself enough yet for more.

Bernier the Boats 03-15-2013 08:09 PM

Kyle Turris deal; 5 years x 3.5m/year.

blasted_Sabre 03-15-2013 08:10 PM

Duchene is likely a good comparable.

Will be interesting to see if Nonis plays hardball ala Bergevin and Subban.

JMcLeaf 03-15-2013 08:11 PM

3 mil

maybe more depending on contract length

Larcos_Unal 03-15-2013 08:11 PM

his agent is gonna go to town, look at what we're paying grabbo.

Grant 03-15-2013 08:13 PM

1-2 years at 2.5-3.5m (a shorter 'bridge' contract similar to Duchene's)

or

4-8 years at 4-4.5m (long term contract assuming lower end of potential similar to JVR's)

Completely unrelatable contracts. Grabo was a pending UFA. Kadri is a 22 year old RFA and will have one good season under his belt.

BayStBullies 03-15-2013 08:31 PM

He should get something around B. Schenn

Schenn still has another year left on his entry level contract. Do you mean Kadri will make around Schenn's current ELC cap hit?

Jerkini 03-15-2013 08:46 PM

I'd hope for a Duchene caphit. I'm expecting Grabovski money sent his way.

Cor 03-15-2013 08:50 PM

2.5M AAV 2 years

1.5 then 3.5

Eyedea 03-15-2013 08:56 PM

3.5x2 or 4x3

HarrisonFord 03-15-2013 08:56 PM

3.5M AAV, 3 year contract

If i was his agent i'd use the Kessel deal as a comparable . PK had one good year and we gave him 5.5 x 5 so i'd be looking for a similar deal .

Luckily for us, Nonis just has to point out to his agent that Grabo was a pending UFA, which Kadri is not.

If Kadri wats to play hardball, he can sit at home. A UFA just goes to the highest bidder.

UFA contracts are not comparable in any way, shape, or form to RFA contracts.

MeowLeafs 03-15-2013 09:13 PM

Assuming around 3 year contract, then 3.5mil max per season.

number72 03-15-2013 09:15 PM

JVR deal is also a comparable. And if the agent goes bezerk he will use o'reilly as a comparable

Amp3d 03-15-2013 09:15 PM

Lowest - $3M
Highest- $4.25M

Looking at somewhere in between.

What do you think is so funny . PK had 1 60 point season and Burke opened the vault for him so why wouldn't the same reasoning work for Kads .

glasses91 03-15-2013 09:18 PM

Anything the future captain wants:sarcasm:

garce 03-15-2013 09:20 PM

4.5 x 8 front loaded fair for both sides.

Kadri hasnt had a 60 pt season, for one. Nonis would also argue (and probably correctly) that this season should not be pro-rated for a guy whos jsut breaking into the league.

mikebel111 03-15-2013 09:23 PM

anything over 3.5 is too much IMO
I am a big fan of nazem, but its one year
the most years I give him is 4 years, with an annual salary of 3.50
