Calgary Flames v/s New York Rangers

:flames C Brian Boyle

:rangers D Anton Babchuk, 5th round pick

Flames only have two 'natural' centers on their roster (Backlund & Stajan). Boyle could fit in nicely on the 3rd or 4th line. He would also give the Flames some much needed size at the forward position.

Babchuk is a #5/6 defenceman who can also play the point on the PP. Seems to be the odd man out in Calgary (only 2 GPI so far this season).

Both players are the same age (28), and same size (6'7" vs 6'5").

Thoughts?

Forgot a small detail, Calgary's 2nd rd pick.

The Anton is worth a 7th rd pick, and I am being generous, some flames fans are asking for a bag of pucks for him!

Kershaw 03-16-2013 12:07 AM

No thanks

Babchucks played in 2 games, that's all I need to know. Another great contract by Feaster. Does he have a NMC too?

Calgary's 2nd rd pick this year belongs to Montreal. Plus I don't think the Flames would trade a 2nd round pick for a guy who has 1g and 1a in 22 games this season. :shakehead

Limited NTC. Feaster's worst contract by far. Sarich's latest is runner up, apparently you win championships carrying 4.5M in healthy scratch defenseman.

His skills is defensive stopper, penalty killer, shot blocker, FO and hitting. If you have the lead late in a game, that's the guy want out there bringing it home. If he was an offensive dynamo as well, he would be worth your first + top prospect.

If he was. But he's not. He's a bottom-six forward. Edit: I'm interested to know what his FO numbers are like. If he's > 50%, the Flames might be inclined to throw in a draft pick.

Babchuk's contract expires after this season, so that could also be a plus. :naughty:

Agreed he is not, but he can't tell me an ace defensive 3rd line center is not worth a 2nd and brings up his offensive stats this season.

If Sather was looking to get fired, this would be a good start.

How does 57+% sound?

Sounds good. We'll add our 5th round pick. ;)

Other teams are offering more attractive options. Look through this board, there are many Boyle related threads
Rangers can certainly use his skills in the playoffs too.

I'd say, no thanks for the 5th. I'll look elsewhere.

What's the asking price for Glencross?

Not available short of huge overpayment.

Plus he has a NMC and told management to "Never ask me to waive it". He loves Calgary and we love having him.

Love those kind of players. Good for him and Calgary.

PS: Please fleece Pittsburgh for Iggy. :naughty:

How so? The original deal is probably a no go, but Babchuk is a free agent this summer so adding him to a Rangers for a small return (4th or 5th round pick) is move with little downside.

The original posting was Boyle for Babchuk straight up. And the most I see Babchuk getting is a 5th rounder if your lucky. more likely a 6th or 7th rounder.

InfinityIggy 03-16-2013 01:23 AM

Pretty bad for New York, dunno why they do this. If they want Babchuk just throw a 5th our way.

Let's not get carried away now. He's put up some decent points in the past, but has just not been given a chance to play this season.

He's worth at least a 4th, maybe even a 3rd closer to the trade deadline.

Edit: Fixed the OP to add a 5th.

Those are the key words. The guy has been absolutely useless the last two seasons, their is a reason he isn't getting the chance to play. Besides a big shot on the PP he bring absolutely nothing to help a team. Not sure what team would give up a 3rd or 4th for that.

A team looking for some help on the PP.

You don't think there are better options out there for a mid rd pick?
Heck, Yannick Weber from Montreal for a 6th is better.

SaintMorose 03-16-2013 01:54 AM

Anton for a 5th/6th in this year or next year's draft depending on where the rags are willing might be possible I dont think we get more than that and I think they'll kick a few tires before it's a trade they do

Isnt Anton kind of pricey?
I could see this work however a 5th is not a good offer.
Make it a 3rd and I see a deal
