LA in on the Iginla Sweepstakes

Just on insider trading, among Boston and Pittsburgh, LA is said to be interested and something around Bernier will be offered.

Krishna 03-14-2013 08:52 PM

Bernier + makes sense for Calgary

Chazz Reinhold 03-14-2013 08:55 PM

I just can't see the Kings trading Bernier to a team that's going to be in their division after realignment for an aging rental.

Cup > Bernier IMO.

Quick has shown what he can do in the playoffs. They don't need Bernier hanging around.

Kings can win 1-2 more Cups if they play this right and add impact players to the core.

Bernier/Ramo duo next year?

Might as well hand us the cup now.

I don't disagree with your overall point, but getting Iginla wouldn't guarantee a Cup. With Calgary moving into the Kings' division, I have a hard time seeing Lombardi ship his blue chip prospect out to maybe win a Cup this year, but help Calgary for the foreseeable future.

gordie 03-14-2013 09:00 PM

Who says Iginla would accept a trade there?;)

Hatter 03-14-2013 09:01 PM

If , Chara, Gomez, Drury, Richards, Kovalchuk et al. taught us anything it is that the Kings are ALWAYS in on the sweepstakes.

I can see why the Kings would offer something around Bernier but I can also see why the Flames should reject something like that quickly. The Flames are relatively stocked on goaltending prospects. Bernier, while more established, isn't a pressing need. Unless the Kings were willing to put Toffoli on the table, I'd rather the Flames looked to the Bruins or Pens for a deal.

Captain Hook 03-14-2013 09:02 PM

Not surprising. I figured they'd get in the Iginla sweepstakes if or when he becomes available.

TheHudlinator 03-14-2013 09:04 PM

I would be surprised if Calgary accepted a package built around Bernier instead of Toffoli

I pretty much agree with this. Not to mention the fact that I'll be happy to see Johnny B get a **** at a starting job. He will be a great number one and this deal would really make sense for the flames. Will hate facing him in our division 6 times a year though.

Noori 03-14-2013 09:07 PM

Should have traded Iginla to the Kings a long time ago when they were offering Simmonds, Schenn, +. Not that interested in Bernier really. The Flames need centres and defensemen in exchange for Iginla, not a 1b (at best) level goalie. I realize there would be other pieces but a trade centered around Bernier just isn't very appealing.

Wingsfan2965* 03-14-2013 09:07 PM

Makes sense for both teams IMO.

LA+ Iggy makes them the easy favorites for the Cup, IMO.

Bernier solves Calgary's goaltending issue once Kipper starts regressing. Actually it gives them the opportunity to move Kipper for something else.

Hatter 03-14-2013 09:08 PM

I could see Kings adding Vey or Kozun and a conditional pick but not Toffoli. He is the first legit sniper we have had in the pipeline in quite some years.

I wouldn't, Toffoli isn't really any different then Backlund. He isn't going to be a number 1 centerman either. Bernier is the better player.

Rorschach 03-14-2013 09:10 PM

I'd be surprised if LA dealt anything of substantial value for a rental they couldn't re-sign. And I doubt Calgary could get much as there's a short list that Iggy would agree to be traded to...true contenders who are willing and have the remaining cap room to take him and his several mil pro-rated cap hit.

And with the way Quick is playing, why add a redundant winger for a piece we may need to keep for the playoffs? Who will be backup?

All I offer is a 2nd rounder next years'.

johnnystormcgy 03-14-2013 09:11 PM

I would feel so bad for leland irving.
Bernier drafted 11th, Irving 26th.
Irving was the heir apparent for the WJC, Bernier takes it from him.
Irving was the heir apparent to Kipper, Bernier takes it.
Ouch!

Fat Elvis 03-14-2013 09:12 PM

Toffoli needs to be kept. There's just no one else in their organization that compares to what he brings. Not sure LA's assets are what Cal would be looking for. No 1st and a gaggle of 4ths ain't sexy.

We are going to have to disagree on this, Toffoli's offensive game has grown leaps and bounds since he was drafted.

i can guarantee you Toffoli is off limits

Don't want to be nitpicking here but Lebrun said that he "thinks" LA would be in on Iginla and "thinks" Bernier would be the guy they'd dangle.

Just sounded to me like speculation, could be wrong though.

Toffoli is a highly touted scoring winger. He's not Loktionov, the player we traded for a 5th.
