Gaborik Available; Canucks interested (Per HNIC)

As per the Hockey Night in Canada panel.

Wonder what the Canucks would be giving up for him...? I guess a legitimate sniper would be a bonus in Vancouver.

EDIT: Brooks now saying Gaborik is "available":

Quote:

And now, the Blueshirts are seeking to move Gaborik again ... this time out of town by the April 3 trade deadline. Itís going to be a tough sale at $7.5 million on the cap through next season, even tougher because the Rangers need value in return for No. 10, who has provided management with a list of 10 teams to which he cannot be dealt under terms of his no-trade clause.

Say goodbye to Kesler than...don't know what else you'd give up

RDRR 03-16-2013 08:32 PM

This brings back memories.

Winnipeg Jets 03-16-2013 08:32 PM

Pretty sure Friedman said they were interested but didn't look like they would be compatible trading partners. Unless I misunderstood...

That's not exactly how I heard it.

Didn't he say that the two teams had briefly spoken, but that there was no deal to be made--in part because Vancouver was likely asking the Rangers to retain some of his salary? (Friedman didn't say the last part specifically with regard to the VAN-NYR, but he said it was a general roadblock to Gaborik getting dealt).

RespectYourEdlers 03-16-2013 08:32 PM

Did he buy a house in Vancouver????

Lucbourdon 03-16-2013 08:34 PM

If we somehow get Gabo, that sure gives us the sniper we are looking for.

Raymond Kesler Gabo line would be nuts

Something around that line, but it was still stated that Vancouver has inquired about him.

snizzbone 03-16-2013 08:34 PM

Don't see what Vancouver could give up to get him.. unless they want to deal every decent prospect they have and picks.

FolignoQuantumLeap 03-16-2013 08:34 PM

How can Vancouver possibly work Gaborik into their cap situation? They'd have to move Luongo first and isn't he their starter at this point? You'd have to have Raymond/Booth + Ballard's salaries going the other way. The team would be incredibly shallow next year.

Canucks have made their big money commitments.

Except that Kesler doesn't pass. Ok, ok he'd probably pass to Gaborik.

No it appears like a done deal. I still think the Canucks are giving up too much with a first, Burrows and Jensen even if Boyle is included.

Gaborik should be with the Sedin twins. His forte is getting in the right position and pick pocketing pucks into the net. They're a match made in heaven.

Nope, or else Mason Raymond would be playing with them.
The Sedins need a gritty guy on their line who can crash the net.

Gaborik had 11 points in 20 games in the 2011-12 playoffs.
Burrows had 17 points in 25 games in the 2010-11 playoffs.

I think I'd keep Burrows.

Just saying, he isn't really a sniper anymore and people will be disappointed if that's what people think he is. He is a finisher, but doesn't create many chances by himself. I guess Kesler and him could work out if Kesler returns to his playmaking form when Raymond/Samuelsson scored 25g each that season.

JeffMangum 03-16-2013 08:49 PM

Kassian/Raymond/1st would be nice.

I think Booth/Raymond/1st is more realistic.

Frankly, though, I think Kassian would be a must in any potential package that Vancouver would be sending back to NY. They won't give him away.

Kassian or Jensen I'm sure of it.

There is zero chance Gillis would move Kassian for a non-physical guy, or else we would have just kept Hodgson.

What's been up with Kassian, VAN fans? I don't have Center Ice this year so I really haven't been able to see him play. He had 5 goals early on, and he's still stuck at 5.

In a nutshell: he was playing with the Sedins, and then he wasn't.
