Okposo to Minny

Ok so I know Eklund isnt the most reliable source but he mentionned that the Wild have interest in Okposo. He is from there and is friends with Parise. Not a bad fit for Okposo or the Wild. What would it take?

Fro 03-19-2013 02:36 PM

can't see it unless its a "good hockey trade" Isles aren't that far (iirc) out of 8th...they may be looking to add a piece rather than take away a piece

caley 03-19-2013 02:37 PM

Please use 'Eklund' prefix for Eklund rumors, thanks!

Billy Mays Here 03-19-2013 02:45 PM

No interest in Okposso. Would much rather have Stafford if we're trading for a top 6 winger.

Brodziak and a D maybe? Could use a change of scenery with C so loaded in Minny now and in the future...

Brodziak + Falk?

Jim Morrison 03-19-2013 02:47 PM

How come every Eklund-thread starts with the exact same sentence yet people keep posting his rumours anyway?

I have lost track of the number of Eklund / NYI rumors that amounted to nothing over the yrs.

Before the thread is filled with Wild fans posting that they don't want Okposo and NYI fans posting, that they are tired of his inconsistent play, get him oughta here..

1. Staples wrote several days ago, that Snow's gotten plenty of lowball Okposo offers and isn't interested in trading Okposo for them.

2.24 yr old Okposo, is still in the cheap yrs of his 5 yr contract. This is yr #2/$2m. Next season will be season #3/$3m. The isles are so far below the cap floor, that Okposo's $3m salary is still team friendly.

The head coach made this pregame comment about Okposo, before the last NYI/ Caps game.

Arthur Staple‏@StapeNewsday
Re: Okposo, Capuano said pregame he doesn't mind mistakes as long as guys are working. Okposo works; not always smart work, but he works.

GOALTENDING: C
Evgeni Nabokov needed to carry the Isles through the first half without a confident backup. Rick DiPietro is in Bridgeport now, though, and Kevin Poulin has to show he can win games when playing occasionally. Nabokov has done well, but needs to do more

BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT: Kyle Okposo
Coming off shoulder surgery that cost him half of 2010-11, Okposo's slow start last season was explainable. His current one, with two goals in the first half of this season, is less so. He's been playing with more confidence the past month with little to show for it, but he has the faith of his coaches and Garth Snow, who has rebuffed plenty of low-ball offers for the former first-round draft pick.

Okposo hasn't really done much to help them get there. I'd say if they can get a decent return for Okposo right now, which I doubt because he's been incredibly underwhelming, they should take it and run.

Absolutely not.

No interest in Okposo, especially not for what Isles fans think it would cost.

No kidding, if you think he sucks or isnt reliable then why are you reading it or even more so, POSTING IT!?

Yes. It makes a lot of sense to take a lowball offer on a 24 yr old, coming off a career high 24 goal season and making a whopping $2m.:sarcasm:

I could see if Okposo were making $4m-$5m per. He's making $2m and the isles are $20m below the cap floor.

Yeah, and this year he's on pace for 5-6 goals and 29-30 points in an 82 game season.

Yes. Okposo's the only player struggling thru this shortened season:sarcasm:

Btw, Grabner has something like 14 pts on the season and Frans Nielsen has 15 pts. They are really ripping the league up.

Briere 13 pts $7m
S. Sullivan 12 pts $2.6m
Hanzel 12 pts $3.1m
Mueller 12 pts $1.7m
Grabovski 11 pts $5.5m
Stafford 11 pts $4m
Morrow 11 pts $4.1m
RNH 11 pts $3.7m
Okposo 10 pts $2m
Dubinsky 9 pts $3.7m
Jokenin 9 pts $4.5m
Penner 9 pts $3.2m
Clowe 9 pts $4m
E. Cole 8 pts $4m
Zajac 8 pts $3.8m
D. Jones 7 pts $4m

Sony Eriksson* 03-19-2013 03:24 PM

So in closing Okposo will not being going to Minn.

Staples reported about 9/10 days ago, that Snow's gotten plenty of lowball offers.

I'm scratching my head, trying to figure out why the Wild's lowball offer, makes it into Eklunds column.
It's either a) Okposo grew up in Minn. or b) he's a good friend of Parise's.

PWJunior 03-19-2013 03:34 PM

As long as Okposo's real money salary is less than his cap hit, Wang would veto any trade involving him. He may be available once his salary matches or exceeds his cap hit which would be this offseason at the earliest.

Because there are always people willing to comment in the thread... like you. And I. And everyone else in this and other threads.

Bouchard for Okposo

I wouldn't trade for any of these players except RNH.

I'd actually rather keep the 5th rounder, thanks.

Exactly. All that list proves is that Okposo is the cheapest bucket of rust in the junkyard.

As tempting as that 5th rounder is ;), I'm gonna guess this is what Snow means, by rejecting lowball offers.

Isles need to get bigger/more physical, which imo is why Snow ignored Nino's trade demand and why the isles are hoping they can sign Anders Lee in a few weeks.

24 yr old OKposo's $2m salary, is the 2nd lowest on that list.

If he made the $4m-$7m per, that some players with similar stats are taking home, NYI fans would ride him out of town on a rail.

If they want bigger and more physical maybe they'd want Stoner or Falk

Nah. Isles just need to show some patience, wait on their youngsters.
6'4 Brock Nelson is finishing his 1st yr in the AHL.
6'2 Nino is finishing his 1st yr in the AHL.
6'3 Lee is reportedly gonna get offered a contract, as soon as his season ends.
6'3 Kabanov missed most of this season due to a cut forearm.
6'4 Mayfield is reportedly gonna get offered a contract, as soon as his season ends.
6'4 Pedan
6'2 Pelech
6'4 Reinhart
