Luongo for Grabovski

I'm not advocating it at all. I'm not that big on Luongo and he isn't having the best seasons to boot, but Hockey Central were discussing what it might take at this point in time to get Luongo to the Leafs.

They discussed how the none of the Leafs goalies have taken the job the ran away with it. In addition, they discussed how the Canucks sorely lack depth at C.

They proposed Grabovski for Luongo.

I just want to find out what Leafs fans, Canucks fans and others think of this.

Seems pretty good tbh.

Both contracts aren't the best, Lu's is worse due to length.
But Lu also can have a bigger impact on a hockey team.

Leafs need a veteran goalie, Canucks need a scoring C (for the sake of Grabo, please put him in an offensive role... Guy must be so frustrated...)

Moore Money 03-20-2013 01:05 AM

I would do it as a Canucks fan. I like Grabovski.

avsman 03-20-2013 01:06 AM

Makes a lot of sense to me

Dangles McGavin 03-20-2013 01:07 AM

Actually very surprised I haven't heard this before.

Seems like a decent basis for a trade.

Leafs would definitely need to re-up Bozak though.

He's my favorite Leaf, though.

Leafs would have to add Jake Gardiner.

Freudian 03-20-2013 01:09 AM

It's actually not that crazy an idea. Bad salary for bad salary while filling team needs. Gillis would have to accept the Loungo contract being so bad that he has to lower expectations of return first. That might take some time.

Dark Knight 03-20-2013 01:09 AM

The only reason why I might warm up to it is due to Colborne making the jump and taking the 3rd line C role next season. With his size, I think he's more suited for that checking, defensive role, but he also has the upside to contribute on offense. Dallas Eakins is working hard with him, and even when he was up with the Leafs last year, he seemed to fit right in because of his size.

I still don't want Bozak as our 1st line C, though.

 no they dont

Smokey McCanucks 03-20-2013 01:10 AM

Grabovski is one of my least favourite players in the league, I would absolutely hate to see him on the Canucks much less for a good guy like Luongo who has done so well here.

Hasn't it taken long enough. No one will give him a top prospect or a 1st rounder for him. Especially knowing his hands are probably tied.

Please, be serious or leave.

Phion Keneuf 03-20-2013 01:12 AM

I'm pretty sure Higgins called our Grabo before in Montreal, but I'm pretty sure it was nothing major.

SillyRabbit 03-20-2013 01:12 AM

As a Canucks fan, i'm open to this.

Adding a 2nd from the Leafs side would make me feel better about it however.

Grabovaski alone for Luongo is being serious?

Vankiller Whale 03-20-2013 01:13 AM

Hmm...Would the Leafs be willing to add a conditional 2nd(playoffs?)

tml145 03-20-2013 01:15 AM

Leafs would probably do it, but i dont know about the Canucks

Grabo would probably do well in Vancouver

that contract is a good cap hit, but very long(scares me)

So you ask for Gardiner, who has more value than both Grabo and Lu.

Sounds reasonable... Although I'd push for it to be a 3rd haha!

Seems like Grabovksi salary is a little high, but having Canucks this year lack center depth may have changed my mind. Though I don't think the deal is straight up because Luongo is still the better player.

Grabovski + Biggs + 2nd

For

Luongo

You desperately need secondary scoring if you want any chance of making the post season.

Gobo 03-20-2013 01:18 AM

Thought this would've been proposed long ago. Makes a lot of sense. No one needs to add IMO. Goalie values on HF > Goalie values in the NHL

tml145 03-20-2013 01:18 AM

it would most likely also include Scrivens

Grabovski + Biggs + 2nd

For

Luongo

That's crazy .... Maybe if you added Jensen

Kevin8se7en 03-20-2013 01:20 AM

Would a goalie be going the other way to Vancouver?

Either way - makes sense for both teams but Toronto has to sweeten the pot a little

Grabo + Scrivens and a conditional pick based on Lou's performance and Leafs playoff run

for

Lou and a 5th

PS: Maybe Scrivens has more value than i thought - IDK
