Ducks have signed LW Patrick Maroon to a two-year contract extension worth $1.15 million. One-way deal. Would have been UFA.
I remember when he was a prospect in the Flyers system and got into some big dispute with the coach and they sent him home, and he sat out for a while before being dealt to the Ducks.

Turned into a pretty good AHLer. Probably too slow to do much in the NHL.

He'll be back in the NHL. He was very good in his 4th line role.

I don't think that's the case.... He's really improved his skating. He's just the victim of depth. I would be more than happy to have him as a fourth liner full-time.

Duck Off 03-21-2013 07:14 PM

Only reason he's not here now is there's no room and he's waiver eligible. I love this signing for next season. If he can develop more of a mean streak he can be a Shawn Thornton type. A fighter who isn't useless on the ice. Very good move by Murray.

Chris43 03-21-2013 07:15 PM

Seemed like a good fourth liner from the couple ducks games I've seen, not a bad price either.

Big McLargehuge 03-21-2013 07:16 PM

edit: $1.15 million total...rant revoked.

Duck Off 03-21-2013 07:22 PM

575k for a solid fighter who can handle 10 mins a game. Good signing.

Ah...that makes much more sense.

I hate how it seems completely random whether an article refers to the cap value or the total value of a contract.

Shellz 03-21-2013 07:24 PM

I was so confused.. I thought that said 15 million for a second. DERP Shelle.

Good, now give Maroon #5 and make the world right

Timmer44 03-21-2013 07:36 PM

I read this as Pat Falloon and thought I went back 20 years.

Ah, I thought the same thing. Let me fix that title. Was trying to figure out what he'd done to deserve over a million a year!

AngelDuck 03-21-2013 07:55 PM

Very good job by Bob Murray. He keeps a good 4th liner for under 600,000 dollars

He's always been a very good AHL player. Unfortunately, he had some attitude problems with the Phantoms, so the Flyers traded him. I think he was actually the team's leading scorer at the time, so the locker room issues must have been overwhelming. I think he can be a solid 4th line LW. He's humongous, so he can play the crash and bang style of game and provide some screens in front of the net.

Who really knows? The Flyers haven't demonstrated they their AHL system is a breed ground for future NHL players. He wasn't the only one who got in hot water. I think at the time he was unhappy about not getting an NHL look. Glad he is hanging around though.

Pat always had attitude problems when we were in highschool. But then again he was better than everyone in the St. Louis area so he developed a bit of an ego.

But good for him on the contract.

I've never once heard of an attitude problem since he joined the Ducks organization. Maybe he has matured more?

When he was traded here I remember him saying "I had to learn a lesson the hard way" and other things similar. I haven't heard any issues either so I assume he learned his lesson.

McDonald19 03-21-2013 09:32 PM

Good signing. Big 4th line left wing with some upside.

Underrated post

ReLyT 03-21-2013 09:42 PM

biggest thing for him HAD to be that it's a one way deal... good for him

TooHotToTrotz 03-21-2013 09:47 PM

I do not see his upside, his fighting ability or any of that. I see him as a fringe NHLer at best.

Hope he proves me wrong.
