Their proposed designs have always looked amazing, but the only question is where the money will come from. They kind of screwed the pooch at getting municipal money when daddy Ricketts went off the deep end and starting financing some particularly malicious attack ads against Obama during the last election, which all but killed their chances at getting public monies from the Chicago city council.

They need to knock it down from foul pole to foul pole. Nothing in foul ground is worth keeping. Leave the bleachers as is.

I am going to be shocked if anything positive comes out of the abyss that is the Cubs/local "politician(s)" situation.

Considering how much Wrigley Field is physically integrated (i.e. tightly snug) into its neighborhood, I'm not sure how easy it will be to do large-scale renovations to the ballpark.

(I speak as someone who was at Wrigley Field for a couple games in 2009 but does not go to games there or even go to Chicago on a semi-regular basis.)

I thought the Cubs were moving to rosemont or schaumburg.

Just leave it how it is. I went to Wrigley in 2008 and what I loved about it was the simplicity of the place. Definitely my favorite stadium.

LOL no.

Rosemont has offered them land. There is no way in hell they are leaving the city, though.

The place is falling apart. Doesn't have a lot of years left.

The stadium, while still a great place to watch a game, is getting old and either has to have these renos or be replaced relatively soon.

You sure about that? There's land on the south side but i'm sure that would go over like a lead balloon.

That's exactly what people said in 2001 about Fenway Park before the Henry group took over. The Yawkey trust was letting the place rot so they could get a new stadium.

If the Cubs go in whole hog on renovating Wrigley Field they'll take decades off the place. It'll look better than it has for years.

Why would they go to Schaumburg and become just part of strip mall suburbia? Suburban ballparks/arenas don't work. They need to anchor a real neighborhood. It only works in football because of the once-a-week games and tailgating culture. There is a reason the Islanders are leaving Nassau.

I am sure that they will not move to Rosemont or Schaumburg, yes.

The Cubs will just do what the Yankees did and prattle on for a decade about moving to the burbs until someone throws money at them to shut them up

IU Hawks fan 03-25-2013 09:19 AM

They don't have a decade to wait. They need this renovation NOW!

Not trying to be a a$$hole or anything, but can someone explain to me why this topic is on this board? I fail to see any connection to hockey. But maybe I am missing something??? Thanks.
