Rangers on the hook for salary or is that just re-entry waivers?

Shellz 03-23-2013 11:52 AM

Not sure why the Rangers waived him. I thought he was playing well for them. Good pick up by Montreal.

I don't think re-entry waivers exist anymore...

Could be wrong though.

Fire Sather 03-23-2013 11:53 AM

whatever

Good pickup for Montreal. Good PKer, faceoff guy.

Unless this is to clear a contract in a trade where we're adding player, it's an incredibly stupid move.

Prairie Habs 03-23-2013 12:01 PM

Loved him when he played here a couple years ago, didn't think we needed him with the way Dumont has stepped into the lineup but it never hurts to have depth for the playoffs.

How slow is he now? He definitely contributed last time we went to the ECFs!

FanHabtic 03-23-2013 12:03 PM

Why was he waived??

Freudian 03-23-2013 12:03 PM

Do they need him or did they just want to block Bruins getting him as a cheap Kelly replacement until playoffs?

White is the only C with a 50% so yeah we could use a decent FO guy for once.

Srs Business 03-23-2013 12:03 PM

I hate that we waived him. Good pick up for the Habs.

Our top 3 centers are all under 50% in the FO circle.

He's not, he still skates like he's 23.

caley 03-23-2013 12:06 PM

Halpern will not make it to the game in time to play tonight, but, per Renaud Lavoie "Canadiens players are happy to see Jeff Halpern back. He was really appreciated when he played in Montreal."

Not sure how he could have contributed to any team going to the ECFs as he's never been there. Perhaps you're confusing him with Dominic Moore if you're a Habs fan.

Captain Smurf 03-23-2013 12:08 PM

Solid pick-up, Montreal needed a Face-off guy and a PK specialist. Nice to get one for free, who is also familiar with the City and team.

GenericFan2* 03-23-2013 12:09 PM

Don't get this from a Rangers perspective. Nice pickup by the Habs.

I'm not gonna disagree but the Bruins would have first pick of him right now wouldn't they? Canadiens are first in the NE bruins are 2nd so wouldn't bruins get first crack? If thats true they don't want him

How is it stupid to waive a player with 0 goals 1 assist -5 in 30 games. What do you see in him that is positive:shakehead

how can that be when the b's are lower in standing (right now) and could have claimed him ahead of the habs if they so wanted?

The Perfect Paradox 03-23-2013 12:10 PM

Good pick up for Montreal.

Halpern was one of the best defensive forwards for the Rangers this season. I was pretty surprised to see him get waived and still really don't understand the reasoning behind it.

Wins faceoffs, is good defensively, is a good PKer, and is a great skater.

For a 4th line center who plays 5-10 minutes a night, I don't expect much more than that. He filled his role well.

solid on the PK and faceoff, so basically a good bottom sixer

Iron Throne 03-23-2013 12:15 PM

We can sure use him on the fourth line. Got some underachieving players on those lines.

And we have been bad on faceoffs
