Ellis sent to Milwaukee

@forecheck Ellis to Milwaukee and Hornqvist coming off IR.

NoNecksCurse 03-25-2013 02:19 PM

lol i don't get this organization sometimes

triggrman 03-25-2013 02:20 PM

Interesting.

NoNecksCurse 03-25-2013 02:22 PM

really thought he was showing lots of signs of why we drafted him so high. hard to expect a rookie pretty much to be anything past decent with scott hannan, hal gill, or an equally up-and-down jon blum. hope to see you in nashville soon human rocketship.

Top 6 Spaling 03-25-2013 02:22 PM

It was him, Blum or Bartley. I would have picked Ellis personally.

triggrman 03-25-2013 02:25 PM

Blum actually played better with Gill than Ellis did. Ellis still has some es issues.

Cashville 03-25-2013 02:28 PM

I'm fine with Blum or Ellis going down. Bartley and Klein should stick together as long as they continue playing well; very surprised and pleased with Bartley playing top 4 minutes.

dont see bartley as a long term solution to the top 4. more like a band-aid. hope im wrong.

nomorekids 03-25-2013 02:48 PM

This was kind of expected, as I think Blum now has to clear waivers.

Ellis has had ups and downs, but lately it's been more down than up.

Wonder what happens when we get DeKeyser :naughty:

Heh, 'Hey Edmonton. Blum, Ellis, and SK for one of your big 4, deal? Hold on I got a call. Oh Detroit. Sucks about DeKeyser. Yeah, he had family in Michigan but his agent had family in Hendersonville. So, SK, Blum, and Ellis for Datsyuk? Yeah I know LOL.....No, I'm serious.'

:naughty:

Enoch 03-25-2013 03:13 PM

Is Dekeyser even a possibility? Scouting report?

april 03-25-2013 03:19 PM

Likely temporary. He didnt have to clear waivers so sending him down was a quick band-aid until Poile decides if we are sellers or buyers, and Blum or Hannan is traded. Management loves Ellis, so don't look at this send-down as any sort of punishment to him. He has been in a bit of a slump, but some of that can be attributed to being stuck on a line with Hannan. Blum/Gill are looking great so far, making Hannan and Ellis the odd men out for the moment.

Oddsmakers say he's going to Detroit but left handed shot most HFer's say he's already #5-6 D-man with the potential of #4. Teammate in W. Michigan is a Preds prospect; Chase Balisy #2 scorer on the team.

They say a swaying factor is family in Michigan but, hey, how many Michiganders are in Middle TN so he could have a ton of family in TN.

Low cost D-man who won't suck and would force the Preds to move a couple of d-men.

35 GP: 2G 13A in the CCHA. 1 PPG,

year before: 41GP: 5G, 17A 3 PPG. year before exact same stats.

EDIT: best analysis I can find. http://www.mlive.com/broncos/index.s..._danny_de.html

The buzz on Twitter this morning is that he's down to DET, EDM, NSH, STL, ANA (in that order, according to my estimation), and that his agent is in Nashville today to talk to both Edmonton and Nashville.

He's basically a Klein\Hamhuis style defenseman, with similar second pairing upside. Left handed shot, great first pass, rock solid in his own zone, decent offensive instincts.

Guaranteed NHL icetime this season is likely part of the requirement in signing him, but I would give it to him over any one of Blum\Hannan\Bartley.

That said, he's a Michigan kid with ties to the Red Wings, and they really want him...so I think our chances are slim.

worstfaceoffmanever 03-25-2013 03:57 PM

17 games without a point will do that to an offensive defenseman. Ellis needs the kind of consistent PT that he can't get here. Milwaukee will no doubt love to have the extra offensive spark... although they would probably much rather have a forward.

isnt he on a 1 way contract for this year? or is it next year he has the 1 way?

101st_fan 03-25-2013 04:38 PM

One-way/two way only address salary at the different levels, not if the player is waiver exposed or not.

darth5 03-25-2013 05:09 PM

Waivers has to do with combo of age/NHL games played, right?

Welp, we all know what happens in THAT scenario...

exactly.

someone like 101 could give you the threshold for waiver exemptions in age/games

TootooTrain 03-25-2013 06:02 PM

Shame he's being sent down, but he needs to produce offensively for him to be effective.

For those wondering about waiver status, this is a very useful tool via capgeek:

Age at time of signing combined with games played factor in. If a skater is deemed to be 18 for the year of his initial contract (1 Jan - 15 Sep of his draft eligible year), it's five years or 160 games played .... down to two years or 60 games for a 24 year old signing his initial contract.

deanwormer 03-25-2013 07:18 PM

Regardless of waiver considerations, keeping Blum is the right thing now because we know Ellis is part of the long-term plan and Blum is still being considered - which includes assessing his trade value. He needs to be playing regularly so everyone else can see he's still a good value prospect.

NoNecksCurse 03-25-2013 07:41 PM

with bartley looking like a possible solution, maybe ellis could be shopped for a legit forward to play with wilson. especially if blum's trade value isnt where poile can make a deal.

ellis + for forward to play with wilson

weber - josi
klein - bartley/blum
bartley/blum - gill/ekholm/free agent dman

just throwing stuff out there..
