Joe Thornton

Okay with the sharks seeming to be in "sell mode", wondering what it would take to snag Big joe away from San Jose.

Since it's a division rival, I doubt it, but ill give it a shot.

Canucks - Jensen, Kassian, + 1st
Sharks - Big joe, -1million cap.

Summary: Canucks trade #1 and #2 prospects in organization, and a 1st for Joe thornton + 1 mil cap hit reduction.

Value?

Value is probably close. I'd have to see what other teams would be willing to offer to get a real gauge on it.

Juxtaposer 03-25-2013 03:58 PM

Value looks good for me. I really like Jensen. Plus, Vancouver gives Joe a really good shot at a Cup in the next two years, which is a priority for me if I'm looking where to send Joe.

But like PF said, it's a seller's market and we can't take the first offer we see. :sarcasm:

Also, I don't know how I feel about putting Joe on the Nucks.:P

No interest in that at all from a Canucks POV. After Thornton and Sedin era Vancouver would be left with nothing in the cupboard. I actually despise Thornton for what he does to the Sedins' as well, so no interest at all.

magic school bus 03-25-2013 04:02 PM

I honestly can't imagine how much Thornton is worth with the trade market like this. He's a PPG two-way 1st line center and teams are falling over themselves to acquire spare parts.

JayP812 03-25-2013 04:02 PM

Thornton is not going within the new division.

CanadianSharks 03-25-2013 04:03 PM

I'd have to think about that for sure. Put Kesler on the wing (when he's back) and have Joe as your #2 centre... woah.... scary thought.

I HATE the Canucks, but:

Sedin - Sedin - Burrows
Booth/Raymond - Thornton - Kesler

Woah............... basically two first lines.

bleedblue1223 03-25-2013 04:03 PM

Something around Perron.

It would be interesting, you could move Kesler to the wing, and Kesler will have a true playmaking center.

The line up I would go with would be similar to this.

Sedin Sedin Burrows <--chemistry line
Higgins Thornton Kesler <-- dangerous scoring and two way line
Raymond Schroader Hansen <- Chemistry line who have been lights out
Pinozatto Lappy Weise <-- typical grinding fourth line.

Anth93 03-25-2013 04:05 PM

I'd give up a lot for Jumbo Joe.

1st rounder with a choice of young player/prospect.

You'd love him when he's doing that to Jonathan Toews.

I think it's hilarious :P

Jake Gardiner
Matt Frattin
1st Round Pick (2014)
2nd Round Pick (2014)

I know what you mean. But it's the same reason why the Bruins hate Burrows and many teams hate Kesler. Love to have them on your team, hate them if your playing against them. I wouldn't give the assets in the OP for Thornton though, he's probably worth it but not to a team with such little in terms of prospects like the Canucks.

I'd do it if those picks were 2013

Are the Sharks looking to move him before the 2013 draft?

I was under the impression it would be after the draft.

meh...

I know Joe gets knocked around a lot here, but he's still an elite 1st line center with quite a few years left to play. He's going to get a significant return, and that really just doesn't excite me much. No offense intended.

Yah it would likely be in the off-season.

Time to lower the expectations then.

My point is, there are young players from other teams I would prefer over those two.

No way.

This is a very bad idea.

Gunnin54 03-25-2013 06:39 PM

Joe would have to waive his NTC in order to move and if hes moving then we need youth for him

That's fair, but just to put it into perspective, there's no way in hell the Leafs would do that trade.

Kershaw 03-25-2013 06:57 PM

Now Thornton, this is a guy I'd give up Hagelin/Kreider+ for.
